Is Vaughn Roux  going to try something like this?

" Dean Karnazes, 53

From October 12-15, 2005, Karnazes ran 350 miles across Northern California without stopping. He didn’t stop to sleep or to eat, or – in the most stupefying accomplishment of all – he did not even slow down to sample a Sonoma Valley chilled chardonnay. All told, he ran for 80 hours, 44 minutes without a break."

Climbing is a pleasure, for the mind and body, especially later.

Eish, and it looks like 3 quarters of it comes in the last 1 quarter of the race.

Meanwhile at the back of the field Christi Viljoen and Dirk Griesel have just overtaken Mike Glover and Neville Higgs who seem to be holed up at a farmhouse at 266km. My guess is that the latter two are going to be our nightriders for this race, a strategy that worked well last year for the backmarkers.

One of the guys I'm rooting for is Rafeeq Safodien , last year he went off course for about 80km and threw in the towel after doing about half the distance, I can only think how gutted he must have felt. Interestingly Hannele Steyn made the same mistake but back tracked to where she went off course and rode to a second place in the women's event adding more that 100kms to her race, that requires enormous mental strength.

And to re-iterate: Jeannie is married to Martin!

She knows what she is doing. Also, she has a huge adventure racing background

And she hold the Women's RASA record which is the 6th fastest time ever ! Apparently they stopped a few times because it was their honeymoon , Jeannie wanted to push on but Martin convinced her to have a rest ! One seriously strong rider !

Just checked last years Tracker Hannele Steyn turned around just before Victoria West adding 140km to here ride. Rafeeq carried on through Victoria West rejoining the course at Loxton where I think he was told that he would have to backtrack to rejoin the race at KM 484 or be disqualified, at that stage he would have rode about 660km and a backtrack would have added another 200km to his journey. I wonder what would be going through his mind when he passes KM484?

Talking about Mrs Dreyer she's just gone walkabout at almost the exact spot that Hannele and Rafeeq did. It's after a short stretch on the R403 this year it's KM490 perhaps the Munga's own Bermuda Triangle!
