Event winners

Some event organizers do not have all age category winners. Why?  From junior to +70 make the event possible. Every age group who races would like a shot at the podium. Spare a thought guys.

big sponsors = big prize money

If you don't have big sponsors you can't have prizes for all categories and you need big prizes for the main categories to attract the bigger names (pro's)

also keep in mind that the hosting an event is a juggling act. if you have a limited budget same is better spent on route/marshalls/waterpoints to ensure a good event for everyone instead of a cash prize for a few individuals

Again Hub conventional wisdom says that only elites that make a living from cycling should have podiums and prize money the rest of us are fun riders and it only encourages the old toppies take PED's and stuff  :whistling:

Majority of riders are 30 to 50 age group. Without them you don't have a race. Just recognition, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, would be enough. Then distinguish between fun ride and timed event. Timed event podium for all ages.

Ok firstly majority are already sht1ting there pants for not receiving goodie bags, have you thought of what the bitch fit will be if you only hand out a trophy or just a hand shake?

I am always willing and able to hand out free noddy badges after an event.

If it's recognition, you can always have a shirt printed that sez, "I'm the winningest ## year old on a bicycle "

## insert age

If there was no podium for winners. Would there be winners? If there is no incentive to win, why win? If you race, you race for one reason only. so... do not fool your inner self.  Podium for all age winners. I rest my case.

When winning is the focus the inner self is already lost.

True to yourself you must be mmmmMmMmmmmm.

if you didn't win you didn't win, so don't get the deal with age categories...  nobody gave Jens Voigt some podium sunshine for being the fastest 40 year old the year before last and Cav didn't get a rainbow jersey for +30's

If it's recognition your after go do the bigger events where you get more exposure and where there is more competition.....these events usually also have category prizes for all participants as well.

And if you really want recognition, go and do the national series events and win all those and get your stripes. Then we can all envy your professionalism.

Some of us do races for the fun of it and not to win it. We like to do trails that are not normally open to the public unless it's in a race and we like to ride with like minded people. Sometimes we have a chat to each other and even make friends/riding buddies..........It's not all about winning.

1st, 2nd, 3rd of the race should get prize money.  If you are not in front, you are slow and should not get a prize.

Age cats does not make sense and is only a money making racket in SA.

Juniors and U23 should have their own league and comps (Alone and away from the big races) to help them come up through the ranks into Elite racing.

Anything else should be funriding.

US (and Europe??) have a cat system where you can move through the Categories 2,3 and 4 to get to 1 if you are strong enough.  But if you are not Cat 1 then you can't win the race.

Irrespective of age.

Problem with SA is that this system needs a proper seeding system which CSA does not have and don't care to operate as they get enough $$ from the current system.  So it won't change.

$$ remains the driving force behind this crazy cycling participation obsession of Saffas and the organisers wont change the formula.

The lekke thing about this system is also that your dope testing gets focussed on Cat1 racers and more specific rider testing and a bigger pool of testing gets done and not this random back marker stuff trying to catch fat oakes taking diuretics for marketing purposes
