I Want To Kill A Busdriver

Straight piece, no oncoming cars. I was 50 meters in front of him. Bus passed me with about 30cm between my handlebars and the bus.

Luckily he only has bruises and roasties on his hands and knees, and a cut on his lip. Front wheel rim is toast though, because there are these blocks in the gutter, and the front wheel went into a slot between the blocks. I am just thankful that it was not worse.

From now on we are staying of that road on Sunday mornings. My own rule that I had broken because we were both lazy yesterday morning. Just confirmed why I had that rule this morning.

Thanks for the details. Very annoying!

Check maybe the garage at the bottom in GB if they dont have cctv (they all do) and ask for the footage round about your time, there might come a bus that rings a bell.

Over here in Australia the rule is a 1 meter gap on a road with a speed limit of 60 and below, 1.5 meter gap is required where the road has a limit in excess of 60.

When you make a transaction at the transport department (review your car or your driving license) your receipt is printed on a slip reminding you of the rule. The slip is A4 with the gap rule taking up 80% of the page.

Fines hurt here, 120% more than SA. Financially but more in terms of demerit points. 12 points and you loose your licence. 12 points in a 3 year cycle. Do 67 in a 60 zone and loose 1 point, do 71 in a 60 zone and you loose 3 points. More than 30 over the limit and your car is pounded and your licence is gone.

Yes, some years ago a a friend of mine from OZ had his license taken away. I cant remember for what, but he had to do everything over again to get a new license. He had to also wait a while before he could start the procedure again.

HI Moridin ,

As a father who had 2 sons doing a lot of cycling , 1 stopped and the other one still at it , I appreciate your anger and also concern expressed in another post about the rider who lost his life on Hendrik Potgieter .

I rarely give advice unless asked for it but going to venture out here .

I am not a trainer but from what I read and observe the days of those long hours on the roads are over , unless you are a TdeF rider our equivalent .

Your son , racing XC , can benefit hugely by doing power based training indoors . PLUS he is off the roads .

I never believed it but my younger son , holding down a full time job did the Epic in 2013 doing 99% of his training on a stationary bike . Sometimes doing 2 sessions of 1 hour each per day but those were all structured . Before mechanical issues struck on stage 6 they were 28 th overall .

Just a thought .

Good luck and stay safe .

Thanks.

Just hope the bruises on his hands heal quick. He may have torn a tendon in his one hand. We will see tomorrow. He was so excited at getting batched in 1A for Sunday's Stellies Tour. Now he might not make it. Hoping for fast healing this week.

Sending him plenty healing vibes.

And I am so sorry to hear about what happened, it is infuriating.

Sorry to hear, Moridin. I almost got smacked by a huge dump truck a week ago that took a very sharp left turn forcing me onto, luckily, a grass verge without a pavement cos bunny hopping is one of my non-skills. Hope the lad heals well!
