ok guys any news? how are things ?

The cool windless night has helped immensely.

The one in Jonkers has died down ALOT. Lourensford has no smoke at all.

Not sure about Paarl, Tulbagh or CT.

Any news from that side?

and so, with the thick cloud on the Hotentots Mtns, there is slight "cloud drizzle" on the mountain.

it is now safe to say, the fire, in somerset west and jonkers, is out. flare ups look unlikely, but stumps may smolder for weeks. but right now, all is quiet.

OK, just heard some info worth sharing. A colleague of my wife was instrumental last night in catching an arsonist attempting to start a fire close to Paradyskloof, the area between Parmalat and the Mediclinic. She was driving alone and saw I guy light something and threw it into the bushes. She saw the guy running and immediately phoned the fire brigade, which responded in 7 minutes and managed to not only put out the fire, but also apprehended the arsonist as she had given them a very good description of the guy and in which direction he ran. He was wearing a red jacket, so it was easy to identify him.

So, please be on the lookout. They seem to target late night to start the fires.

Edit: Removed Molotov Cocktail, my half educated assumption.

I would be very interested to know the profile of the guy. Pyromaniacs have a mental disease - but some comments on social media along the lines of serves rich white forks right, and looters have me thinking what could possibly be the reasoning behind it.

Is the perp young rich bored kid, poor homeless vagrant etc. any info you can share?

Well, colleague of my wife. Except from the description of what happened when he set it alight I assumed it was a Molotov. Basically, she was on her way home from work (she finished her shift at 10 last night at MC) and saw the man light something that caught alight immediately and violently, and flung the thing.

At W2W last year a guy who used to maintain the portage section said people burn down areas to clear it for their occupation a month or two later.is it true?

Simonstown fire flaring up again according to my aunt an hour ago. Mountain burning just below old stone quarry. Not sure how bad but not over yet.
