I drive that route every morning on my way to the gym at around 04:45. on my way to Victory park

I'll be keeping an eye out for that car....Blue Opel astra with a broken windscreen (someone said early in the thread).

I have not doubt that F8877R will be back drinking there.

RIP Andrew.

Perhaps its time that we track down one of these murderers and dish out some mob justice.

Perhaps that will get the authorities to take the issue seriously.

While I feel the rage and outrage of the situation the true injustice of this situation would be the failure of good men to act. It is very easy to sit and be outraged at something like this from the sidelines. I will reply with a plan of action soon.

Now is the time to act, this is a call to arms fellow cyclists.

Slightly off topic but also slightly on topic. Stories like this make me despair of there ever being justice

Who remembers this ?

The bastard has only spent 7 months in jail ..... for killing 5 people. This was the last article I found of him, not sure if he won the appeal or went to jail

Terrible! Rest in Peace Andrew.

Thoughts and prayers with the famliy.

The driving culture in this country sucks!

It's not just the driving culture . . .

The whole system, led from the top, is one of bull**** lies, corruption, bribes and no accountability for anything. Little or no respect for lives or property and no effort to find those that commit crimes. Even when people are caught there is often no punishment.

What sort of a society is it (and I know I'm guessing a bit here, but I'm prepared to take the chance based on everything I've read so far) where some pissed-up guys can come out of a shebeen at 4:30 in the morning, and then have an "altercation" with police which ends with them "driving off"????

Who the **** drives off from an altercation with police? And the car that was seen "mounting the pavements on both sides of the road" must have been driven by someone who could barely stand up, let alone drive.

To lose a family member or a friend due to an unfortunate accident would be devastating enough. To lose someone in this way must be impossible.

The driver of the car has committed a murder. Anyone who knowingly let him drive a car in that state is an accessory to murder.

This is not a part of "Gods Big Plan", or simply a "sad and unfortunate accident" - this is an entirely predictable symptom of a country that has lost its way. Sad for South Africa but tragic for Andrews family and friends.

RIP mate.

Okay so guys pending the family's blessing the plan would be to set up a fund (managed by an attorney) to hire a private investigator to track down those responsible (others have already voiced a willingness to contribute).

After this all information would be passed on to the police, if they fail to prosecute on the matter (which I am almost sure they will) the attorney would start a process (pro bono/ free of charge) called private prosecution.

Private prosecution is a process in which a private individual uses the courts and criminal justice system to drive a criminal hearing if the state fails to.

Would someone that has contact with the family please be in touch regarding this as I feel it would be a violation of their rights to simply barge ahead with something like this.

We should also get their permission to start a ghost bike for Andrew.

We should really start putting them up for as many fallen cyclists as possible.

This will have a visual impact on motorists, as well as being a memorial for the rider.

This sounds like a positive out of this terrible tragedy.

I think this is the best and only way forward so lets go with this.

Account number will be useful...once this is approved that is.

Let's make an example of this?

I feel making a contribution is all I can do under the circumstances.

Strength to those left behind.

I have a rolling chassis mtb for this.

For what it's worth I noticed that the Sunrise Cafe Center has 2 CCTV cameras looking into the parking lot.

Thanks Ivan but they do not work. It was the 1st place we checked. If anybody would like to help with donations etc, please contact Jack Black or myself and we will pass on to the family.

RIP Andrew and sad condolences to your family.....

I was hit by an imbecile in the Cradle and thank God only broke some ribs and bruises,

It is unacceptable that a cyclist can be abiding by the rules of the road be hit and killed in such a manner!

Going back to cellphone triangulation and/or tracing.

It would be a very doable exercise (by the cellphone companies) to check which cellphones left the tower near the shabeen at a time just before the murder (that is what it is, no accident), and then cross reference cell phones joining a tower near the scene at that time - bingo.
