I really am forgetting what it was like riding amongst Jo'burg traffic. It is so quiet here and the drivers are generally so courteous that it is a pleasure.

See my reply to Patch above.

In my opinion NOTHING justifies a motorist doing what he did to another road user. We may as well give up riding if what this driver did is justified. In any society where anarchy is not in control.

Nothing justifies the drivers actions, I'm not sure anybody is saying that.

But you asked what the rider did wrong.

Pointing out incorrect behavior is not always "victim blaming".

Been riding in CPT for the last 10 days, and I am dreading going home and riding there again....

This is nothing less than attempted murder and the driver of the van should be charged with that crime.

And the rider get a medal for bravery? Me thinks not. The rider is in the wrong. He'd also pis me off by riding in the middle of the road. This is what happens when '' You spite me, I spite you '' **** happens. Unfortunately, the rider will lose the contest here with a great possibility of severe injury or death. I AM NOT SAYING THE DRIVER DID NOTHING WRONG

If someone calls you something despicably rude or pushes in front of you at the movie queue or plays their music too loudly at 3am or insults your mom's sexual fidelity or rides in front of your car .....  it is then justifiable to attempt to physically harm that person because after all they were in the wrong.

Hang on sorry, my bad, I forgot where I was for a moment.

At the end of the day, the driver lost his job. The cyclist did not.

Also, the driver lost maybe 45 seconds to his day? Maybe the cyclist did not think it was safe for the van to overtake on that corner?

You are implying the cyclist did something wrong.

As stated on a previous page I also follow these rules as I have learnt it is a must. I believe in OWN THE ROAD if you fee unsafe.

Quote "it was a left hand bend with a solid double. There was no way the van could pass safely even if the rider was in the gutter. So he moved into the centre to make his presence a real factor for the motorists behind him.

I do exactly the same thing in left hand bends as motorists are inclined to cut corners and that is exactly where I would be. As do a lot of people who ride in traffic regularly.  I'm also inclined to overstate my rights as a rider when a motorist buzzes me.

Put yourself where it is safest for you as a bike rider? As is your right on a public road?" end Quote.

This old topic again

like I've said before,  it is due to road cyclists sense of entitlement combined with some prima donnas who truly believe that they have the right to hog lanes that has lead to this.

People are frustrated and although I categorically don't agree with the drivers who do this,

at the end of the day you as the road cyclist needs to get off your high horse and realize that a car is harder than your soft pink flesh.

Think we are confusing things here.

What did the cyclists do wrong: He acted like a dwis to another human being.

What did the driver do wrong: He assualted another human with his car.

One humans anger or impatience can NEVER be a justification to endanger another humans life.
