Looking forward to their 11-42 10speed. My 11-42 10s Sunrace lasted 7 months before the 42 cog folded like a dipped marie biscuit.

It's really becoming hard to justify buying the higher range stuff. Deore is looking really solid.

Deore has always been excellent bang for your buck.

The nicely stepped 10spd cassette is a good move from Shimano.

It's just a shame that they didn't offer a 1X specific crankset.

As far as I know Shimano has never had a narrow wide chainring.

They have this odd propriety tooth profile which they only came up with in 2015 for xtr.

Which has since been trickled down to the new XT and SLX stuff.

They might be playing catch up. But I don't think they care.

Sram already has a 12 speed group with a whopping 10-50 range.

Then Shimano strolls in, late to the party with an 11 speed 11-46.

Its clear they don't seem too phased about pushing for 1x systems like Sram is.

Their business model doesn't have R&D as squarely in their crosshairs as Sram.

They have their eyes on the prize.

Draping as many entry level to mid tier oem bikes as possible.

And by and large, Corolla's will always outsell Mustangs.

Considering how versatile these groupsets are with the plethora of 3rd party bling ready to grace your Deore groupset. You have to wonder how much 'better' Sram really is.

They should stop wasting time on taking items that were developed years ago and then sell it as something new.

Rather sell new fresh legs, skills and fitness out of a box, imagine how much money is to be made.

I don't think Shimano is playing catch-up. I think they won't have their product strategy be dictated to them by SRAM.

There are still a lot folks who want and need 2X drivetrains and the latest side-swing FD's from Shimano are crazy good.

The new wide-range 2x10 drivetrain can offer lots of range in a decently priced package.

Problem is you guys are only thinking about the SA market and the must have mentality!!

Overseas, the majority of bike are used for commuting as well as weekend warriors and 2x and 3x work well.  They do not see a must have 1x as many do not even race or take weight into consideration.  The masses fun ride and are happy with many gears as possible

Eish.  Don't like hearing that - I just bought a Sunrace 11-42 cassette.

Yeah because you can't commute on anything less than 1 x 11 XTR

you obviously don't read pinkbike. Granted, that doesn't really cover commuters, but it does cover enthusiasts and wannabe-pro's.

Also - the must have mentality is NOT solely an SA trait. It's a human phenomenon.

This looks really good. Great to see quality products getting the tech trickled down.

The fact that an eagle cassette now costs the better part of R7k and SRAM 11s cassettes costing pretty much R4k means that 10s will still be around for a long long time.

Will be interesting to see pricing on this and where it fits in on the new entry level bikes.
