Hollowtech II BB Tool Pretoria

Morning all,

Can anyone point me to a shop in Pretoria that can sell me a Hollowtech II BB Tool in Pretoria that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? I've been to CycleLab in Lynnwood, Hot Spot Cycles and Sportsmans Warehouse. The Bicycle Company in Lynnwood has a Parktool BBT19.2 at a shocking R440.

Alternatively, does someone have one that I can borrow (rent) for a day - compensation in the form of cupcakes or beer is available.

This is what I'm looking for:

Sorry, can't help with a loan, I'm more than 70-odd Km away (in da souf).

R440 may sound expensive, but (1) it's a Park Tool - it will out last you and your bikes.

IMO, it's worth every cent. There should be alternative makes around... BBB springs to mind.

I had the same issue. Those things are almost impossible to find. I took my bike to Epic Sports in Centurion. They took it my BB off for me. I serviced it and went back the next day for them to put it back on. They didn't charge me a for anything.

Maybe a option if you don't want to buy one

I own the park tool and it's not great. The surface and diameter of the plastic disk makes it difficult to grip and apply sufficient tourgue. I think the ICE tool would work better.

I have the ice tools one, it came as part of a kit that in total cost less than the parktool one.

I doubt it will ever let me down but there is something sexy about tool from parktool.

I use it probably 4 times a year though so not enough reason to buy a better one.

BaGearA hooked me up with a loan, which will suffice for my task at hand. I needed one before Wednesday, so will still order one from somewhere eventually.

Thanks for all the offers and advice!!

If you're torquing it more than finger tight you're doing it wrong. That's why the tool is designed like that.

The plastic piece for tightening the retaining cap is meant to be tightened by hand only....max about 2Nm. It simply takes up longitudinal free play of the crank shaft in BB. You need to do this before tightening the crank arm clamp bolts. The clamp bolts compress the plastic retaining cap and fix it in place.

I'm not sure when Shimano changed the size of the (external) threaded BB's, but I got a plastic ring in my last purchase that fits inside the BB tool. The outside diameter of the BB is smaller than the older versions.
