Brick thrown at rider on Constantia Nek (Hout Bay side)

While I was riding down Constantia Nek (Hout Bay side) this morning at about 05:45, some guys on the left side of the road, about half way between the cemetery and the police station, threw a brick at the guy riding about 50 m behind me.  

 

The brick hit him on his left forearm and then the right thigh.  I heard him shouting and I rode with him to the police station.  The police were pretty good, and went off straight away to try and find the guys (two guys, teenagers).  The injured cyclist stayed to speak to and make a report with the police.  I went on after that, so I don't know whether anybody was arrested.

 

The wound on the rider's arm looked like it might need stitches.  His leg was just scratched and bruised.  He managed to stay on the bike, which was probably just as well.

I suspect so yes.  Throw a brick, make the guy crash, and then take his cash, phone, bike. Fortunately the guy managed to stay on the bike.

SAPS won't do a thing.  It won't be reported.  There won't be an outcry.  Social media won't go nuts.  The SAHRC won't get involved.  Parliament won't make a pronouncement and "take immediate steps".

 

That's just the way it goes when you live in a lawless anarchy that's condoned by the majority of the population.

This stretch has been a problem for a long time. For those reading this that use that stretch, rather cross the Disa river and use Valley road. This has been problematic too in the past, but nowhere near Main Rd.

They are obviously too lazy to hike up and over to mug mountain bikers at the mast, now just doing it on the road. Terrible, glad the rider is ok.

I have had a brick kicked into my path on Green Point main road. What people will do to get you off your bike! Stay sharp and maybe start carrying a serious pest repellent! 

 

Happy that the victim was not seriously wounded! Heal

That's appalling - I'm going about 40k an hour along that stretch. Very scary.

Sadly there have been numerous incidents on that stretch of road from the graveyard to the circle.

Monday morning at about 8:30 a cyclist was held at knifepoint and relieved of his cell phone.

Many incidents don't even get reported.
