IRONMAN PE 2018 and CTCT 2018 over the same weekend

Will likely be PE the Two Oceans Ultra next year which will give me a decent amount of time to recover between events.

As has been said previously, if you go to the expense of entering Ironman, the last thing you want to do is break a collar bone racing in the CTCT.... so for the majority doing Ironman it is not of concern with the dates clashing.

Biggest problem I foresee is that many have a 12 week programme leading up to race day, so with Ironman being almost a month earlier will have to be training hard over the Christmas holidays...... urgh!!

ha ha, this is quite funny. this is in comic sans, because whilst I'm obviously taking the piss - it's true.

Argus 40 000 people.

Ironman, ~2000?..of which maybe a third do the Argus too?

Thing is Ironman is so overhyped, overpriced, over egoed and all that. Uh mean it's the AFRICAN championships. (and also the only african event).

BUT yet the 600 odd okes who want to both are now getting their leotards in a knot because they can't get what they want??

Done or trained for any Ironman event?

Argus is so big because it is way more accessible. It's a training ride for those doing the full IM. #justsaying.

I have... and I sort of agree with him.

The 600 odd IM guys who ride CTCT are upset because they can't do both. So?

If you RACE CTCT from A batch or elite to win, then do IM to go to Kona, then awesome. But that would be exactly how many bodies?

If you are training for IM and wanted to throw a century ride with waterpoints and some crowds in as a training ride then just alter your plans and do it somewhere else?

As discussed ad nauseum, the CTCT does not really cater for pseudo pro's. It is the largest timed single day cycle event in the world and three quarters of the participants are hardly cyclists. Much like three quarters of the OMTOM are hardly runners of much pedigree finishing in the last 20 minutes before a now extended cut off. (used to be 6 hrs now the blue medal is 7hrs).

I get that it isn't ideal for some, but again, CTCT will sell out and Wanda Sports/IM/EPIC will make money and be just as busy as ever.

As inbetweeners we need to make do and stop whining. These events don't care for us. They are money making rackets owned/organised by corporates in suits looking at bottom lines.

Book your bikes in now at yr local bike store for services, the 4 week buffer was great...no argus shove no Epic delay....which is a week later....

Why attack those that are complaining though? They are just expressing regret at not being able to partake in both. Don't see how that deserved insults.

nope. think it's overhyped to the max (more than epic). done enough argus' to know that it is not really a training ride for IM (which would be more like training for me anyway)

I also haven't done the Tour de France, qualified for an Olympics or played in the currie cup.

People don't seem to think it's a problem me having opinions on the second batch.

I don't think anyone was 'insulted'... a difference of opinion does not mean anyone needs run for the hills and be 'offended'.

I kind of think complaining about being unable to do both fairly elite events is akin to all the folk complaining that our junk status has 'completely ruined their exchange rate for their overseas trip'... it kind of sucks but in the scheme of things you're still sitting pretty...

Yeah, I agree that it's a non-issue. But let the guy vent.

I was taken aback by the big'ish jump forward. I am surprised the organisers of the IM event pushed it forward by so much. Everyone will be pushing hard in December now.  I am quite certain it is going to impact EL signups. Oh well. Guess I will have to skip EL next year.

I would not be surprised that the event being held 3 weeks early has something to do with the Ironman 70.3 World Championships being held in September 2018 in PE

I also suspect so. At least that means IM should return to being held in April in 2019.

Whats the min amount of training one can get away with to survive IM?

(asking for a friend of course)

Hard question to answer. Depends on your friend's base fitness. I would say around 10 hours a week to build a good base, peaking around 15 hours a week I think.

i think the move is to accommodate the IM 70.3 world championship which will be held in PE later in 2018.

the IM organising team needs extra time with the additional event
