Speaking as someone who HAS been mugged

It happens so fast i doubt you'll be able to deploy any weapon no matter how small , if its open to see it may detur the ass#ole.

I used a Stream strapped to my pack shoulder straps....you don't want the bike going one way with the pepper spray attached and you the other way.

PRACTICE, PRACTICE and PRACTICE again the motion of reaching and being ready to use the pepper spray. When you really need to have to use it you certainly do not want to fumble. Muscle memory needs to kick in while your adrenaline is wacking you into overload.

And be sure to check which way the wind is blowing before deploying the spray, if you don't want this unhappy event to get you down even more.

That's great but if you're not carry it on you and it's on the bicycle it'll be pretty useless when you get separated from your bike. Even worse, it may get used on you.

If you are carrying in on you, you're soon about to discover how body sweat destroys a weapon in a matter of a week with rust. Be there, done that, got the rust and spent hours getting rid of it

I doubt that anyone that has a firearm is stupid enough to try and mount it on the bike. P.S. its called gun oil.

Agreed - I've been on the receiving end of 1 successful and 2 unsuccessful attempts but I'm pretty sure I warded one off by pointing the spray at the pedestrian as I cycled past (almost as if you can see them summing up the situation and deciding if it is worth attacking or not).

I use mine in the same place, but use a magnet that the fly fisherman use on their nets to attach it, so a pull and it splits.5a783b03-efac-44e0-83ee-983f2da149b4.jpg

My experience says the only place it is of any (albeit limited) use is when it is in your hand. I keep mine in back pocket or under the cuff of my shorts and when I'm on a dodgy road, I hold it in my hand with my finger on the trigger. If I see any pedestrian who looks a bit suspect, I hold in front of me and pointed at the person just in case. I use a liquid bullet which shoots a stream aot spray.

What a great way to instill a sense of goodwill in your fellow human being and get rid of all the prejudice in our beloved country

Rather be safe than sorry. My Motto.

I understand keeping an eye on what you perceive to be a dodgy suspect, but actuality pointing a weapon at someone who is in most likelihood innocent, is just ridiculous.

I'd love to hear what the criteria are for a suspect to warrant this type of reaction.

I carry Pfeffer KO JET, has a clip on the can. Never had reason to use it although a few motorists have begged me to with their behaviour.

Now that I use a Scosche HRM on my arm, I mount it there when I'll be cycling through dodgy areas. Like Camps Bay promenade and the Hout Bay roundabouts.

BTW, it's pretty pathetic to post pictures of 9mm whatever they are called on a cycling thread about pepper spray. But then I guess some guys only feel masculine when they are able to show off. Get some help, there are specialists who can cure you.

Not only that, what if the unsub is not directly in front of the 26er?

you ask the person politely to wait while you do a graceful turn and line up exercise?
