ZakAttak Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 That same blue bakkie, the Mr Chips van and those Flower Warehouse vans all parked in the bike lane every day Oh yes, forgot about those, yes... Spot on...

Serious Panda Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 So the DA is slapping a R250 per month wealth tax on all who lives (own or rents) in a property worth 1 million rand or more. Next year it will be R300 per month and will increase substantially every year.

Firstly: Secondly since you raised it: Yup, worth it if they are cleaning the roads, creating a safe cycling environment. No glass means less punctures, saves me R550 in tyres per month. I therefore save R200 per month thanks to the DA. I don't have a problem with paying a wealth tax if the money is being used efficiently and on the communities that need them. Having audited plenty of CPT municipalities and government institutions I know the money is being spent on the correct things and not on corruption or incompetence. Ok, now back on topic to reporting bike related issues to the city of Cape Town so we can create a safer environment for cycling.

If I lived in a poorly run municipality where corruption was the order of the day and service delivery was non existant, then I would be negas about the added wealth tax on top of all the hidden taxes that we are already paying.
Grebel Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 It works very well for pothole reporting in my municipality (which is not DA run). Can't comment on other services as I've never tried reporting them. Any chance of posting a link?

Basically anyone from a poorer area now wanting to buy in an area like lets say goodwood for example will now have to think about this "wealth tax" . While they might just be able to afford to buy there, now they will most likely not because of this. Already I cant afford to pay this extra R300 a month.Areas like q town, park town have houses that are worth over a million, but the people are poor. How is this gonna work?

They will have to pay, it is socialist and hurts the lower middle class and upper poor class looking to be middle class.
Hairy Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 Nice work, will do (Am starting) to do the same for the West Coast Loop. Ref no. 9103393939
Serious Panda Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 Qwerty, where did you see this? http://www.sowetanlive.co.za/news/2017/04/12/r250-a-month-that-s-the-new-electricity-tariff-cape-town-is-slapping-on-households https://www.google.com/search?q=city+of+cape+town+tarrif+increases+R250+for+houses+valued+at+more+than+1+million+rand&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b&gfe_rd=cr&ei=9vkSWemuFe2o8weN8r3gAw “How many places in CT are not valued at over R1 million right now? And if you‚ like me‚ are a tenant in a vastly overpriced flat with a prepaid meter‚ you’re going to pick up that additional cost‚ not the landlord. This is not okay. Please go and object‚ everyone!” Craig Ball said: “So why only for houses worth more than a million? We already pay more rates.”
Eddy Gordo Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 Also I heard (unconfirmed) that there will also be an increase in water tariff depending on what area you live in. This is also just wrong. I prefer the system of pay more for more.
