Glad to see I am not the only one complaining about this. I go to a number of different gyms and the calibration on some of the wbs are definitely out.

Guys it really is this easy. Now even better the new Manager is a keen cyclist & Wattbike enthusiast too. So no more broken Wattbike's ever.

That is excellent. I'm so inspired I'm thinking of contacting my VA to say the same.

Anyone on this forum or the Hub that attends Meyersdal VA on a regular enough basis, please PM me.

I go to the Boksburg Virgin Active. There are massive discrepancies between the bikes. Management there hust does not have a clue and hand it over to the inhouse maintenance guys who, IMHO, do not have the training or the expertise to work on them. They try their best, but, ja.

It's also pitiful that Virgin Active goes on about the WB app on their site, but very few bikes are bluetooth capable which restricts the use of the app.

If I could cough up that amount of money and had space to spare at my house I would defintely have my own setup, but it is just not feasible so I live with the frustration. Also, things like PainCave are also just too damn expensive.

Wattbikes can be financed, imagine taking your monthly gym subscription fee & using that to pay off the WattBike

For that kind of money there are much better indoor trainers I'd rather get

Business opportunity - becomes a national WB techie, get the training in the UK, come back, see the money roll in

WB is supplied by Penta in SA.  They have the sole agency, and is (supposed) to do maintenance as well.

VA should refer all maintenance that they can't handle internally to them

Probably because out on the road the effects of rolling resistance, wind, temperature, riding in a bunch can affect all of that. On a WB all of those external factors are erased.

For example - the other day I was doing a solo stretch in a rather nasty head wind, squeezing out 32km/h at a wattage of 200-220W. At that wattage I can easily hit 36km/h on the WB. In a bunch at that power it could be up to 30% less.

I thought a WB was for training and things like speed are of no consequence.  That is why power training is used. PRE, HR, SPEED etc are environment/personal circumstances dependent on the day. The Watts not. So if you use power as the reference you know when you are doing poorly or not.

On a good day, with no external factors, you could be fresh and at a low HR be doing your 200W and on another day after hell at work and with the missus with poor sleep your HR can be through the roof but the Watts are down.

What would you want to pay for access to a PainCave?

a) excluding coaching

b) Including coaching?

Also, how about a free month? On the house... To see if it is worth it?

There is now 3 studio's to choose from and 2 opening in Pretoria next month.

So what is the cost of this? And where in Pta will the studios be?

So it seems wattbikes is the old technology and there are now Tomahawk bikes at my VA https://www.teamicg.com/is/bikes/ic7/computer

Pretty much do the same thing and you can link to a training app https://www.teamicg.com/is/digital/training-app/overview

I've seen them at one of the gyms I go to but they have 10 wattbikes and a spinning stuidio of tomahawks and a couple on the floor. I thought they had a fly wheel, so assumed they wouldn't be appropriate... not the case? I didn't try one out. (I was also too lazy to read the links)

I've been to a VA where they have these but the one's that they have don't have Ant+ (as far as I could see).

I'm pretty sure that the Tomahawk bikes are also cheaper than the WattBike and probably less maintenance. It's just a spinning bike with a power meter.

Not used one, only saw them yesterday and took a closer inspection this morning.  From what have read from the webpage they have a magnetic brake (wattbike has wind and magnetic) .  Blurb says bikes are both BLE and Ant+

Curious to know if anyone tried one if they at a few VA's already.
