koukie Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 PF30 MUST DIE!Why? I prefer PF30 over frames like cannondale where the bearing goes direclty into the frame. Dont you think PF30 is more forgiving on a frame? That MFG bearing cups looks like a good concept. I will get that next time around.

Great in concept, terrible in execution. they don't last, they creak, they're expensive, the need to serviced by the dealer, they fail when least expected; and, therefore, they must die
Sharkie 2 Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 And the best part about a brain shock is that when yours is wrecked, they simply send you an overhauled unit which is as good as newI have been told that when you send your brain shock in for a service...you do not actually get the same one back. You just receive a serviced unit back i do not know how true this is though

But we normally ask a customer if he wants his original unit back or a refurbished unit.Own unit takes a day or 2 longer to get back. Your choice though. If a customer does not say we ask for original unit back so we don't run into any issues later...
Gert Janse v Rensburg Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 This is true AFAIK and it would piss me off greatly... Not completely true though. you have the choice of refurbished unit or your own unit.the service form you need to fill in and sign at the store gives you the option.
Rusty250 Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 Not true. I know of 2 cracked frame warranty claims on bikes the owners serviced themselves. Both replaced no problem. The only proprietary thing on a Spez is the Brain, and they insist on that being serviced in Stellenbosch.
stefmeister Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 Get a wheels MFG BB when you replace it. I replaced my SRAM PF30 in my Epic with one of these and it has not missed a beat in the last 3+ years. The bearings are replaceable as they sit in an alu housing. It cost me like R800 back then. One of the best things I have done to my bike+1Forgot to mention it in my post. Got the threaded pf30 Wheels mfg BB. Same concept as the Enduro bearings BB, just much cheaper and same price as a sram p.o.s nylon/plastic pf30. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Grease_Monkey Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 Ordered a Wheels MFG one today. Will get it installed when I take my bike in next week and report back...

sirmoun10goat Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 I normally get my shock back, unless it's wrecked. They normally charge about R200 more for a fully returned shock...money well spent in my mind

Quagga Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 I have been told that when you send your brain shock in for a service...you do not actually get the same one back. You just receive a serviced unit back i do not know how true this is thoughYes it is true, UNLESS you ask for YOURS then they service it and send it back but it can take longer.
Quagga Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 BS none of the two shops I went to asked me thatNOT BS just the shop you went to did not know about it or did not care to inform you. Just like MOST Specialized shops do not know that you have a lifetime warranty on the boa dials for spez shoes. You can just go online and order another set for your shoes FREE
