Servicing Specialized

The whole SPez things is quite interesting - once you paid SO MUCH for a bike . You feel you SHOULD also pay ALLOT to maintain it and its WORTH the  money since you PAID SO MUCH for it - it MUST be expensive to service it - I mean you dont pay THAT much for a BIKE and then its cheap to maintain . Part of what you pay for is the PRESTIGE of the BRAND

its not just a Spez thing....

Cannondale, Scott, Trek and most other brands have bikes in the 100k+ bracket so the running cost on those should be close to the same...

You look at what a 150/major service on a FOX, Magura, RS and Lefty costs and it comes within a R100 or R200 of what a 150Hr Brain service will cost. Sometimes more, sometimes less.... But still very close

We get a lot of other brands into our store and they have the same high bills.

They run the same top end components that a top end SpeZ runs....

In my 20+ years in cycling, I have never paid so much for servicing, yes, I do it at home and I have access to spares at a cheaper price - being in the trade.

I have seen guys go stupid with servicing....

lets get one thing right about suspension, the 30/50/100/150hr thing is a "best practice" scenario set out by the manufacturers that will definitely see their product operating at peak...

I have serviced my suspension once a year and managed just fine - just keep the stuff clean...

Same thing with drivetrains - I have ridden the same chain cassette etc for 2 years - was it totally stuffed when I did it? Yes of course, but the fact is that you don't have to replace everything every 2 weeks...

Agreed, I am prepared to put up with the odd creak or the odd mis-shift unlike others....

Spez not really more expensive than other descent brands, but strangely some people always have that perception...

If this is the price of maintaining a MTB, I think ill go back to road riding. Anyone want to buy a Santa Cruz highball C, with carbon frame and 1x10 sram?

You'll be way better off than on a full sus. Just fork, BB, wheel bearings and drivetrain to worry about.

Get a chain checker and you can knock cassette off that list too.

Research your bearings and get good german ones , then you'll probably replace hubs before the bearings wear out

You about right o  this one.

Labour R250.

Crush Washers R15

Foam rings R30

if seals need to be done then add R215 and tkae the foamrings off as they come in the seal kit.

Where do you get seal kits for that price?

Its a basic seal kit with the 2 Rubber seals and foam rings.

We sell them at that price in the store. We not here to rip people off.

dont get me wrong, we need to pay the bills but we ask a fair price.
