Hi Larry

Boost has caused some complications, we have managed so far fairly well.

Boost is also not Trek specific either as a few other brands have adopted it.

 Referring to Trek's global warranty policy;

The bicycles and parts made by Trek are always changing and improving. Trek makes regular changes to graphics and improvements to technology. Because of these changes, a part replaced under warranty might be a different color from the original bicycle or part, or in some cases the replacement part might be a revised or newer model. When a color changes, Trek might not have the earlier color available. When a frame specification changes, the customer’s original parts might not fit (e.g. a different seatpost diameter). This section explains how Trek handles those compatibility issues.

Frames

Some frame improvements create issues with part compatibility between model years. For models manufactured within the last two (2) years, Trek will provide frame-specific hardware with standard warranty replacement frames. This includes proprietary parts such as bottom bracket bearings, head set bearings, full suspension linkage hardware, cable guides, and duo-trap plugs.

This program does not include front suspension forks or rear shocks. Replacement suspension forks or shocks may be purchased while filing the service claim at a 25% discount.

In some cases, a warranty-claim customer may choose to upgrade to a new frame platform. In this case, the customer is responsible at normal pricing for all necessary frame hardware including front and rear suspension shocks.

Appropriate and very reasonable. Also very clear.

I think that expecting either backward compatibility for a 10 year old frame is, by contrast, very unreasonable.

Hi Duncan

Thanks for bring this up, Trek replaced your frame at no charge to yourself, in October last year. When the frame arrived you stated you were not keen on the Emonda frame set and would prefer a different model.

At this point you were offered a discount to the frame's value of your choice of new complete bike or a similar frame set. You chose not to go this route after some time debating this option with ourselves and the store the claim was done through.

Now I wonder why the OP forgot to mention this ?

Trek is not a brand that speaks to me, but this is both a great warrantee and excellent service.

It does not help with mobilising the pitchfork mob

Me thinks the OP will be slinking back to his corner....

OP, if you don't like the frame, sell it and get one you do like.... just a thought !!

Jeez, warranty claim handled in October (whether to mutual satisfaction is debatable) but the thread started in June? Either op is still without a bike due to not willing to pay the 2k, or has been riding the bike but only bringing it up now, pointing to serious buyer dissonance. whether it's justified is debatable as well, but being dissatisfied is the OP's prerogative.

Also, crashing is not covered by warranty , and wear and tear is not covered by insurance. So insurance on 2nd hand frames can not replace a warranty.

Just looking for ways out to avoid paying R2k for a new bike...

I would happily pay this, every year or 2. Who doesn't want a new bike...
