There are some brilliant deals right here on bikehub for second hand ones... Only been sweated in a few times. Minimum scrotum rub, haven't been farted in....

I am of the opinion that bib shorts are worth spending money on. Much like getting the correct saddle, it is probably the most awkward contact point with your bike if you get it wrong.

Enjoy bibs are great and don't cost an arm and a leg. First Ascent are also reasonably priced. Rocket also have OKish bibs at not ridiculous prices... But saddle sores and eina sit bones turn riding from fun to yuck so rather be sure you're getting something that works.

Good luck

It's a very personal thing. You might find entry level shorts work better for you than the top end Assos. I've had success with First Ascent though others. My advice is to try what fits your budget for now - you have to start somewhere, so if they're a dud, it's not a big loss. Look out for sales - you might get lucky

Get some mates together and "group buy" a bunch of shorts from Margyn Promotions. Best shorts I've ridden in and you get to design something unique. Waaay cheaper than assos/giordana etc and right up their on quality (in my opinion of course).

Thanks, will have a look at these, being using Anatomics and a pair of assos in the past, just wondered if there's anything cheaper out there.

I bought a pair of these on SportsWorld's one day sale for R595 and after today's ride I'm annoyed that I didn't buy two pairs. I doubt that they're as comfortable as Assos or other top end bibs, and I'm a bit of a hardegat, but these were seriously comfortable on their first ride on the gravelgrinder for over 3 hours today. I give them a solid thumbs up.

First Accent from SW, work fine for me but I drive a KIA and that's also fine for me.  I'd probably change my mind if I drove a Porsche but I can't afford the tyres on a Porsche

Bought a cheap Fox bib from a lbs for about R600 a few years back.  Much better quality and fit of some more expensive bibs I have bought afterwards from Indola en Craft

Thanks, this seems like a decent price, will check it out.

Assos.....thats all you need

You must have missed or chose to ignore the budget aspect of request. LOL

That said, I was also in search of some good inexpensive bibs.

Owning a number of Assos bibs made that search almost impossible.

I didn't see much under 1000 - the Sportsworld offer mentioned above and perhaps the Pearl Izumi entry bib. (and check out some local manufacturers: Anatomic, Rapid Sports, Howzit Sports)

Closer to 1500 gives you a few more options - again Pearl Izumi, Enjoy, and CWC had a Castelli on special (possibly still available).

Good luck.!

Have Assos T cento, doesnt work for me.

Have been using Vermarc relax for a year now and they are great. Not exactly budget, but cheaper than assos and not a lot more than the other brands mentioned.

My son is raving about his Ciovita kit. And it is not much more than my First Ascent kit, which I don't like as the shammy is way too clunky.  I also have a Pearl Izumi bib, which is OK for the first 2 years. After that the shammy falls flat.
