Cotic Soul 27.5 or On One 45650b as replacement for Cotic soul 26

So I'm reaching the point where I'm anticipating needing to upgrade my wheel size. I don't want to do it all at once due to the cost and I refuse to just buy a new bike. My plan is to move all my components from my current Soul 26er to a new 27.5 frame and then as my budget allows upgrade the fork and ultimately the wheelset. I've narrowed my choices down somewhat to either the new Soul 27.5 or the On One 45650B. The clear difference is the outright price of the frame. Still looking for a price on the 45650b but I'm assuming it'll be like half the price of the Cotic.

So the dilemma is will I be happy on the 45650b or should I starve for a bit longer and get the cotic. What are your opinions. Am I going to kick myself for being stingy or am I going to smile all the way to the bank.

I love my Soul but I just don't know if I can stomach the price of the new slightly bigger wheeled one. I realise this is somewhat hilarious when you consider how expensive full sus frames are.

Of course this is all academic at present and I may not pull the trigger on this for another 6 months but I want to see what my options are.

Oh my current build has a 150mm sektor upfront (wanted a 140 but couldn't find one at the time) and is a 1X10 setup. I'm very happy with my selection of kit and would keep most of it.

Here are some pictures because steel is real.

The new Souls have thu axle and boost spacing so just make sure you can get adaptors for your current wheels.

Another option is the new BFe275. It would suit longer travel forks (140) and has slightly more modern geometry. Non boost but it is a thu axle. Also I think it is cheaper than the Soul.

edit: Also be sure that if you fork isn't tapered you can get an adapter for the headset.

So yes the boost 148 thing is a concern but it looks like its possible to adapt from 142 to 148 (at least from some googling around). This is a concern though and a will be a show stopper if its not possible. And yes the headset will be a question because I don't want to immediately need a new fork. The BFe 275 might be a good option and should indeed be cheaper.

Okay a bit of digging seems to indicate that I can't get a conversion kit for my novatec rear hub. So sadly its a case of new rear wheel plus new frame, or BFe or 45650B the options narrow. The On One is looking more and more attractive (it accepts a 142 through axel which my hub will allow). Still 148 is apparently the future.

@OP, not that I can weigh in on comment regarding the above frames.

My answer:

I recently built myself a Momsen STR 29'er, my other bike is a Merida 26". I started off with the frame, fork and wheels and moved the balance of the parts over. Now re-building my other bike as I get new parts for the Momsen.

As to what frame? Answer is N+1!!

The future is over rated.... Is there no way you can find a Contraband frame?

650b or 29 with some decent enough Geo for a do it all bike.

Otherwise what size are you? There was a Dave Mercer bike for sale for ages by Iwan.... never sure if it sold or not but it was going for a good price.

Dunno.... there are quite a few options but dolla dictates the On One is probably a chicken dinner...

Cotic is Cotic and it's damn good ( bloody excellent ) but unfortunately they are over hyped and this comes with A huge price tag.

The OnOne will do all they same stuff but at like half the price ....but then again it's not A Cotic , see the problem ?  ;)

Up to you man , if you're tight on budget but The On One

All I have to say is that I have owned 3 x On-Ones and will own a 4th at some stage again ... hopefully in the not too distant future.

Yeah nothing between the two brands, both equally good.

Both not made in the UK anymore

Both steel

Both real

Both Lekker!

Which ever you can afford.

*edit

I like both brands but the cotic with boost appeals to me cos I like em phat...

I have an inbred 26; supposed to be my wife's bike... I love it to bits. Should have gotten a 456, but the boss didn't like the available colours. On the price difference alone the 45650b puts you closer to your wheel/fork upgrade. Those Cotics are bjarraful though...

Somewhere in the pic is my Soma BSide 27.5. Lekka steel frame sourced from a Hubber (Rock).

I also transfered components from my 26er but eventualy upgraded my fork to a Fox of 120mm as opposed to the 100 Recon I was running. (That went onto yet another bike) The wheels I also changed to some Spank rims, lekka strong, since I am seriously in the Buffualo category if I were to race!

I always fancied the Cotic but I had a good deal on the Soma.......tis a lovely ride.
