Lyne Pulse Crank vs Shimano XT Crank

Been reading and hearing some good reviews about Lyne cranks and seen also that they sell them currently at R1699 for crank, bb and chain ring incl for the 1x setup...

Now between the 2 cranks, the Lyne crank has a direct mount chain ring whereas the XT crank is a 4-arm crank that bolts the chain ring on.

My question is:

When it comes to the mounting of the chain rings, is a direct mount a better option that the bolt on chain rings or visa versa?

Will one worn out faster then the other?

Does it make a difference?

Thanks

The direct mount bolts on with three bolts, XT with four, so the Lyne will be faster to change rings  :P

Wear will be the same on either - that's got nothing to do with the crank but rather the chainring and your maintenance.

I personally prefer the look of the direct mount and have had zero issues with Lyne as a brand.

To be honest i also like the look of the direct mount more.

I love my Lyne cranks...

Compatible with SRAM direct mount stuff and SRAM spiders so the options are limitless.

As to removing the crank to change the chain ring, it takes all of 2 minutes with a number 8 and you get to give everything a clean.

On this I would choose Lyne over XT.. replacement chainrings are also as cheap/cheaper than anything else on the market AND they can fit Eagle and boost chainrings with the right offset etc...

Price is also a no brainer

Lyne: R1699 (BB and chain ring incl)

XT: R2350 @CWC (chain ring not incl)

so if you go Lyne you get R651 change over the XT (do both come with BB's ... if I recall you get a BB with a Shimano crankset purchase, but lets assume they both or don't for this exercise)

From Lyne you can buy a spare chainring for R450

R201 left in kitty

Buy a Lyne T-shirt ... you know, to wear while working on your bike. R199

R1 change

i have been contemplating a lyne crank for a while now and since my new bike is only black i need to replace my m785 silver XT crank. my only issue is i have like 4 spare chainrings i imported from china for the xt crank...guess i could sell them on...

Anyone have some nice photos of the lyne cranks on their bikes?

The Lyne is a good deal and they have been getting good reviews on their products. SLX at R1399 also a very good deal and solid product. Think its 1gram heavier than an XT, otherwise probably the same thing apart from the name and colour.

Lyne is great. Wouldn't go shimano at this price and all of the advantages. It's only a few grams heavier than XT anyway, and the Direct mount chainring are awesome, flexibility seems future proof enough too. And don't forget includes BB too!

Nice thing about the direct mount is all the options on chainrings (size and offset). As for having to take the crank off to change chainrings.... Have a look at the oneup switch system. Probably best described as a direct mount quick release spider system.
