if you want the 45650b then get it,

maybe try and get a group buy going and split shipping, i know Pieter is wanting the Codeine long time!

the frame if posted to the UK is £225 which is around R4368.26

Shipping using Aramax Global shopper, is R680, ex vat duties

You can get the frame landed here then around R5500-6000, which is cheapest you'll find, and its what you want...

I did Cobra, about 3 or 4 times in total with the carbon rigid.  1st time was weird-ish.. 2nd till 4th time, well I almost knocked my trail bikes strava PR's off.  Bike handled the hoogies climbs very very well, and the main single track down the face of the mountain was enjoyable.

I put a dropper on the bike now, and I have a bit more time on the bike, I've fallen once or twice with the bike too.  With the seat dropped, the modern geo can actually be felt, for me atleast - because im not used to riding with a high saddle.  (Meezo, who can do anything with a bike, saddle raised or lowered, doesn't really matter... still needs to demo my bike, just so BTW).

I would like to return to hoogies with the bike which is now equipped with a dropper.  Im pretty sure it will do awesomely.  Momsen did a good job with the geo of the new V2, feels aggressive during descents and well balanced during climbs.

Is it me or do a lot of the SS frames have a normal straight head tube?

Pretty much anything modern these days has a 44mm head tube... so you just buy an external cup and it fits any fork.

Most of the older stuff (up till 2012/2013is) are all skinny 1 1/8th only.

Slight thread hijack. I rode hardtails for years, starting with a Giant ATX 770 and then an Ali version. I am now looking for a cheap to build hardtail to complement my enduro bike and to use when out on family rides and for bashing around in the forest, maybe even the odd enduro race where conditions permit. I have a 150mm Giant spec Fox fork that will fit 27.5 tyres. I'd love a steel HT but the pricing isnt that keen. When i say cheap, I mean it. That said, I see CRC has some aluminium frames going for a song. The geo looks good and I see from reviews guys even build them with 26" wheels. I reckon I could build one up for far less than the price of a Mercer frame...

I got a qoute from Mercer about a year ago. Sadly very much out of my price range. I also wanted a hardtail for all the reasons you mentioned and more.

I was open to any bike really, but was in no rush. There were some awesome deals on the hub last year oct, nov, dec. Then CRC had the XMAS sale( its only 20 Mondays until xmas) and I pulled the trigger on the Fireye for around R1300 and the Octane rims cam in around R800 and the Bars were R300. I had most of the other parts due to upgrades. I needed hubs and got a great deal on Ali express for a set of novatecs around R1500 and a chinese crank, 42t, and 32 oval narrow wide. I am all in about R7500.

I have a nice mix of new and used parts that completed my build. This year its even more possible with all the 650b stuff for great prices.

Thats a bargain for a proper fun bike. Its sad that local dealers don't stock anything decent. The closest thing Silverback do is that strange 29/27.5 thing.
