Are you sure about the size, because this is a good buy and near you.

A guy with no posts doing business with another guy with no posts. What could go wrong.

Looking at your current options, I can give you my advice.

Look at the BMC GF02, I bought one a while back for R20k on the Hub, brand new. 105, disc brake.... I thought it was going to be a odd bike, but holy moly, its become my most ridden bike by miles. Its fast enough to keep up with other roadies, but the bigger tyres can be tubeless converted and then JHB potholes are no stress at all.

I have been looking around in JHB for a new road bike, for a few a weeks now, and either phoned, or visited a number of shops in the JHB area, I'm surprised by how difficult it is to get shops to quote on bikes.

I am not naming and shaming, but every store I have visited has taken down my details, yet apart from 2 stores, I haven't heard back from anyone.

Everyone talks about the poor service we get in SA, but surely if you want to sell bikes, you first need to quote the customer on some pricing? or are there enough people walking into bike stores and buying off the floor, that the work involved in phoning agents and getting prices for bikes that aren't on the floor, isn't worth the extra effort?

Exactly the same issue a month ago when I bought a new bike....

I think because I had a budget under R10k they all thought it was a time waste...

Having a similar issue trying to find shoes now!

I've tried that route and asked what 2017s the stores have in stock. They all keep saying that the size is an issue and 51/52cms don't get large amounts of stock brought in and then get sold quickly. So that has proved to be somewhat of a limitation.

Chris Chase was selling a rad NINER RLT pretty much brand new for well within your budget.... Why not give him a shout and see if he still has it?

Also, contact the guys at Bike Mob and see if they have a demo bike for you? I can assure you their service is exemplary and their bikes are RAD

Reading this, no wonder service is in general so crap.  Everyone expects bad service from shops

Its called SALES .. the guys with best price or best service will get the sale, on average you will do 10 - 20 sales calls to get 1 sale.

Sales guys get commission for reason, do good job, get more money.  Well, that how it used to be.

and no, not had enough coffee

I have never had that experience but maybe that is because I don't "visit a number of shops" with no intention of spending money with all but one of them, yet demanding that they will all pull out the stops for me.

Its simply finding the best price...

Looking for BF Goodrich tyres for the boss

Shop # 1 R3288

Shop # 2 R3600

Shop # 3 R4100

Shop # 4 R3450

Why wouldn't you shop around to get the best price on whatever it is you are buying.

From cars to bikes to boring old tyres...

I'm a bit late to the party, but welcome to Bike Hub ALza!

As others have mentioned please forgive some of the Hubbers who hadn't yet had their morning coffees.

The community here can be a lively bunch and banter is common, but in between a few inside jokes you're likely to get some great advice from others who've been in your position.

Good luck with the search!

And Hubbers - go easy and let's welcome this newbie (and others) into our great sport.

What he said!

Welcome ALza and ignore the twats in the first part of this thread. You asked an honest question and it looks like the decent guys in the know are helping you out.

Good luck!

The guy I bought my bike from...

He got my details one evening on a FB group I had posted to.

.

Promised me pricing etc by 8am following morning...

He was a couple of R's more that CWC but I bought from him...

Why???

Because he did what he said he was going to do and ALL the others had to be repeatedly phoned/emailed/coerced into providing the simplest of info such as pricing and stock availability.

Yeah sure, you can shop around if you want, but don't be butthurt if they treat you like a stranger. Once I find a mechanic I like, thats my shop. Price is only one point of consideration. If I walk in and the mechanic is ready to drop his current project to prep me a cup of joe and a handy, well thats priceless.

he's looking for a 51/52 and that's a 47. But bloody hell, what a price!

As for Bike Mob - yeah. Neville and the gang are tops.

Mechanics and after sale service is pretty different to off the floor sales.

He isn't asking the guys to spec him a bike within budget or do anything other than look at a price sheet and copy and paste some specs.

The shop can turn a floor bike over quickly and the sales guy can earn a quick 400 zar... please don't tell me that as a bike shop floor staff R400 for 20 minutes work isn't decent return?

That's some next level wrenching when you get a handy from the mechanic.

Some LBS' do seem to go that extra mile.

He should test ride it. Those all road bikes are a bit 'roomier' than a straight up Roadie.
