the ads you've got are for 8spd cassettes and stuff

So the guy had to do a bit of work to send you something looking legit?

He clearly knows a bit about bikes.

CLEARLY reading this right now.

I do hope the bloem massiv can sort this tjaaina out.

Yeah, in particular the advert for the 7SPD Shimano bits.

He was very convincing (but all good scammers are).

I have no doubt that he is reading this thread, and I want him to know that with utmost sincerity, I will find him and I will have him arrested. It was the wrong week to f*** with me.

That said, guys please be careful and use this network as it is intended. I'm only to blame for not reading the warning post about the scam. Please don't make the same mistake.

I got approached by this guy about my wanted ad, luckily admin spotted him viewing my ad and were able to warn me in time.

It seems like more security is needed. @Admin: perhaps phone numbers should only be shown to verified members??

Must admit, Not always possible, but getting a buyer or seller that meets the 1000 post rule puts ones mind at ease a little bit

What a crock! I've sold some big ticket items on here, with zero issues.  So should I not be trusted because I don't have 1000 posts? I've also sold to buyers with less than 10 posts with no issues.

Do a bit of due diligence on the buyer / seller before you transact. Get a landline number, place of work, copy of ID (for bigger transactions), etc. It will help weed out the scammers.

Update...

Called FNB and asked for help. Unfortunately using an eWallet is as anonymous as using cash, so I couldn't get the real name for this bastard (or a reverse of transfer).

However, FNB have now suspended the eWallet linked to the number 0735571325.

FNB were also kind enough to let me know that the funds from that eWallet were withdrawn from an ATM in Mangaung in the Freestate (Kenworth Shopping Cetre). I will now have to open a case with the SAPS. They will then need to subpoena the bank for footage of that action. Hopefully, if that is granted, we can identify "Andrew Jordaan".

Hi Simon, I would take the matter further with FNB, I was scammed on the same number last week for R3000 via e wallet transfer and reported it to FNB on Thursday 7 December, they said they would block the number, if you have just been scammed now, clearly they did not block the number.

Hi Andy

Please will you send me a PM with your reference number for that conversation with FNB. I will call them in the next 30 minutes and escalate this.

This goes to a pic from a mtb club in new zealand.

This guy clearly knows quite a bit about mtb, or follows it.

and lives in bloem.

Surely the mayor of bloem MTB knows this guy (if the scammer went quiet during munga, then we can close the noose tight)

He basically said that dealing with a hubber who is well-established (using an arbitrary rule of 1000 posts as a proxy) puts one's mind at ease. It is a perfectly acceptable statement, and it's not an official rule so has no bearing on those with less than 1000 posts. So you needn't feel offended or marginalised.

This guy is a pro, he took me hook, line and sinker. Afrikaans accent, his profile pic is bike related, he knows bikes, answered all my questions, some were quite technical. He has been off line on the 0735571325 number since last week Thursday at 21:44. Be careful guys, there are sneaky bastards out there.

It appears this guy has returned  :cursing:

His latest alias and phone number: sfourieft, 0719242226

His typical MO is to respond to wanted ads claiming to have the product you're after. He seems to prefer payment via CashSend / Ewallet and similar "account less" services offered by the banks.

If you spot anything suspicious in adverts or interactions please report it to us immediately via the Report button or report@bikehub.co.za
