Hi gents and ladies

So with a number of the 1X guys using the Sunrace cassette with good things to say, I have a question

How are the derailers? Can you use it on a 1x system?

If I want to put a mtb togehter for MTB riding (not racing) like bottelary hills, meerendal, jonkers etc would it suffice? And of course the trans baviaans, and maybe trans karoo?

If not, why not?

I want to put another sponsor bike togehter, but also keep costs in mind.

Does sunrace make shifters??

Sunrace stuff are pretty entry level. They seem to be rebranded Microshift, but they should do the job quite well.

They are distributed by Two Wheel Trading (Momsen) in SA. Maybe ask them if the derailleurs will work on a 1x system.

If by "entry level" (for their cassettes at least) you mean...

  • shift as well or better than shimano
  • last at least as long
  • better tooth progression
  • looks better

Then yes :P

I was just looking at the Sunrace groupset over the weekend thinking ot would be a fantastic option.

Initial impressions....picked the bike up yesterday.  Including the front chainring (strangely excluded from the 'conversion kit) and a new BB (apparently my previous one was shot) and including labour set me back a very reasonable (I think...) R4,890

So i spent an hour on the bike last night and then again this morning...remember my reference is 3x9 XT so my views are by no means expert....just an ordinary bloke on a bike.....

The Sunrace 1x12 kit looks like a seriously good quality product.  If you're expecting it to look like chinese junk you're going to be disappointed.  i was very surprised by the build quality.  my son works on CNC machines all day - even he was impressed.   the ride is going to take a bit of getting used to.  Initially I was all over the place finding the right gear but after a short while is started to feel natural.  It's plain wierd not having a shifter under my left thumb.  I chose to have a 34t chainring fitted and for the very short amount of riding I have done I think my choice was right.....

So far so good - looking forward to the weekend......
