I used to follow the international Body Building scene quite strongly in the days of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Franco Columbo, Tom Platz, Frank Zane and so on, the old school as it were, steroid testing was in its infancy then but it wasn't as prevalent either, these guys were huge, and i mean huge, I went to the Mr Universe in Durban once where Arnold won and you really had to see them to believe their size, I remember reading about Tom Platz in a magazine once and he ate six chickens a day when he was bulking up, plus litres of whole cream milk and raw eggs by the dozen, Arnold was pretty close behind, but they ate good food, proper food and they trained like dogs, huge poundages, two three hour sessions a day were common, they were also very single track minded, Arnold missed every Christmas because he was at the gym, he was late to his moms funeral, because he was at the gym, they gave up a lot, .....sadly today as in many things people want overnight success, the bar now is not higher than it was back then, its just now they don't work as hard.

By the way google Frank Zane at his peak, he had one of the most symetrical physiques ever, there has never been another like him.

Arnie admitted that he was on the juice.

But he is a living legend. Watching Pumping Iron I gets you SO amped. He and his compatriots of that time are examples of what living, eating and breathing the sport is.

Many thanks Patch. Work doesn't allow streaming or podcasts, so I'm at the mercy of the kind and generous hubbers.

I attended a seminar by Robbie Robinson, also same era as these guys. He admitted to using steroids. He was very candid about his steroid use. He told us what he used and when he used it. The gym where I worked hosted him.

It was very prevalent amongst those guys in those days and still is.

Robbie Robinson was my height, about 1.78, weighed in at a whopping 112 kg and had a body fat less than 8 percent off season.

No amount of chicken will make a human that big.

He was a monster, but had an attitude of note.

I know Robbie, he had a superb physique, one of the all time greats. Sure, they took, but what I really meant was it was not as prevalent as now, Arnold, Lou, Franco, Robbie, Tom they really lived the body builder life, they trained super hard and ate good quality food, its also true that no drug will develop that muscle mass either, you have to lift the poundage's.

But it was a lifestyle and how they defined themselves, Muscle beach in Los Angeles, Golds Gym, historic places immortalized in BB history by these guys.

I wonder if people will be saying the same about Lance in 20 or 30 year's time.

Sure he took but he still had to skip carbs and ride the mileage.

No personal attack here - just wondering aloud.

Okay...

So here is what I took as his (LA and JB) main points.

1. I F*&king said it was stupid to do the Tour and Vuelta

2. I didnt want to do a podcast on it, because of my history.... but something did not feel right about how it was all leaked.

3. There are no studies that puffed Sulbutamol increase performance, not 1.

4. Confirms what V12 said. Inhaler reduces effect of EIA, does not increase beyond normal. Chris does have EIA.

5. There is a political agenda, evident from how it was leaked to press.

6. According to the rulebook, Chris and SKY have followed the steps.

7. We are talking about it because it was leaked.

8. Cycling is the scape goat for world sports, and I am to blame for it. (he was very honest about this)

9. The press pressure that he will get at each race now, is going to be ridiculous.

10. Too many competing bodies in the sport. UCI vs WADA vs ASO vs Fans vs Teams etc etc

11. Teams only need to listen to UCI, and under current rules there is no grounds for team to suspend Froome.

12. Incentive for the teams are not aligned with incentives of all the competing participating entities.

13. Dr on show - Salbutamol is a recue inhaler, only used when it is needed. Chris takes a different med to manage on a day to day basis.

14. Without Salbutamol EIA sufferers would not be able to compete at WT level.

15. For 2000 to be in the system, that would be 20-30 puffs. Dopesnt smell right as he would have known about the Salbutamol test as a long term sufferer.

16. JB - Unfortunately SKY is not having the opportunity of due process, as it was leaked prematurely.

17. People dont want to hear about due process, especially not from me. - LA

18. Even if Froome is found not guilty, damage done because of premature leakage.

19. Big question, who leaked this and why? Only WADA or UCI could have leaked it.

20. Something fishy about Cookson to Lappartient presidency transition.

I jotted these down as I was listen, dont have time to edit, have a meeting.

Probably going to get roasted for this but anyway...

I used to compete in bodybuilding many years ago and have used both. Along with other substances. The Doctor says that there is no documented proof of performance enhancement, but from personal use I can tell you that the stuff works, VERY well. Combine clen with thyroid hormones like T3 (still legal in sport) and you have a fantastic energy boosting, fat burning combo. As long as a person controls the potential cramps with L-Tyrosine and extra sodium, they WILL get serious performance enhancement as well as muscle building/retention and fat loss. I'm still healthy as I used to use moderate doses of everything (EVERYTHING lol...) and years later, my heart etc are all in perfect condition. It's no free trip though, the health consequences are real and permanent, as many of my friends can attest to.

Muscle retention.... Well just lol at that wrt CF, just look at any pictures of Vroomie during racing season and you could be forgiven for thinking he is just a bag of skin n bones

When were you involved in bodybuilding in Durban? My old man was a huge bodybuilding fan in the 70’s

Yah, 70's, 80's and 90's, but I have always followed BB, even today, although not quite as much.

There were also a few S.Africans on the international scene, Reg Park of course been one of the most well known, although he was British by birth he lived in SA most of his life, I met him a few times, even had dinner with him once, super guy, very humble and forgiving, few people know it but he got Arnold into the big league, they were life long friends, Arnold come out to SA to train with him on more than a few occasions, Reg's son Jon Jon runs a very successful gym in Los Angeles now, I remember him as a young boy, *sigh* getting old it not for sissies.

Another great SA Body Builder was Gary Strydom, he left SA as a young lad who could barely speak English to pursue a career in BB in Los Angeles and did extremely well, competing with all the big names, of course he is a fully fledged American citizen now but I saw him once on stage in LA and afterwards I managed to chat a bit to him, he was still a S.African at heart and we spoke Afrikaans,.... another really nice guy.

Yah, I think so, well I hope so, he brought the sport out of nowhere into the big league of public participation, just like Arnold and the boys, they made it main stream from a niche sport no one even knew about.

Like it or not those guys had personalities, they got peoples attention, people wanted to follow their sport, the modern crop......well I dont know, all pretty bland to me.

Maybe he'd be translucent without the Salbutamol. Oh wait, he's already a bit translucent...
