WADA's press release with a bit more details, reading between the lines the test and linkage between ingestion and urine concentration is not defend-able, so there are going to be a couple of other lawyers letters coming over past cases I guess.

And they should.. what is fair is fair no?

They have been so busy putting out one fire they may have ignited another.

I am still amazed by the social media Froome hating.

I don't think noise on Social Media  should be taken too seriously, its not representative of society at large. Its those who overrate themselves and their importance to humanity who let forth with vicious commentary.

The best thing about this announcement, is that I know it ruined Tuckers day.

Just heard Tucker on 567 Cape Talk and he was decided perplexed by this whole affair. Said he doesn't know what to believe anymore and think this was probably the weakest outcome for UCI based on the statement released.

Everyone still looking for a way to make him guilty... Can't hate the dude when he's clearly made an argument that is too good to poke holes in. Especially when it's about ******* salbutamol....

If it was EPO, testosterone, or HGH, go ahead, crucify... But all this over salbutamol? It was stupid to start with and even more ridiculous to continue with...

Glad he's cleared, glad he can race, and glad his triple crown is secured and that South African soil trained up one of the best cyclists in history...

Get ******, Frenchies!

Ps, I look forward to seeing who is the first apparel manufacturer to come up with a hit weather raincoat... Chris needs that real quick....

.

Was more a case of poking holes in the testing process.

A bit torn on this all... happy, sad and a little meh all at the same time  <_<

The old starry eyed cycling fan in me always somehow hopes the racing might be cleaner... but also knows that's an incredibly unlikely scenario. With more money and more know how, comes more loopholes, more doctors, more science, better preparation and less likelihood of change.

We shouldn't have known about this case in the first place, so maybe it's a fair outcome after all. The French are going to give Froome hell at the tour though... good thing his jersey is yellow most of the time.

Money and lawyers go far. Sad but true. Until that changes, the big guys will always have an advantage.

Anti-doping is the illusion of clean sport so that the politically correct can sleep well at night... I've made my peace with that.

Bring on the Tour, bike bling, fast racing, beautiful scenes and maybe even a clean winner - or not. Enjoy the show.

10 years ago we were ranting about systematic EPO/Testosterone use and blood bags duct taped to walls.

Now we're having a global frothy about an AAF for a substance that may or may not be performance enhancing.

I reckon that's progress.

None of us have an idea of what is happening behind the scenes of course but my gut feel is that it is way harder to dope now than it has ever been.

I think the whole thing was a marketing ploy to create more hype and have more ill mannered Frenchies getting hammered and lining the road and more fans spending money at The Tour in general.

I wonder how that A-H Hinault feels now that Froome is also going to have 5 TDF victories?

It may sound cocky but someone is going to have to win on the road and not the courtroom or medical trailer if they want to have someone else win The Tour.

I would not not recommend anyone buy 2018 French wine and bubbly as its going to be sour...

Agreed, you just have to look at female athletics, the sprinting side in particular, to know that things are in a better place... those records are never getting broken as girls just can't take now what they could back then - you are 100% correct, progress. Hopefully less riders dying in their sleep as well these days - the parameters are tighter for sure, but the boundaries and loopholes are still I am pretty certain being abused to the absolute max. Micro dosing, TUE's etc etc

Why is it on the banned list though?

OK, so he proved, one way or another, that in order to reach the elevated test result, he did not break the rules and hence the "Not guilty" verdict. Great news.

So can he now again ride with the same elevated levels, using the same defense? Which in effect renders the entire "limit" null and void..?

Yup. My "proof" that cycling is cleaner is that TdF winners are back to looking like emaciated chickens :-)    The EPO years had 75kg+ riders winning - that blew my mind!

I'm more or less "happy" with doping being at micro and loophole level. Theoretically it should all be banned of course but the 80/20 or 90/10 rule is more convenient to apply and police and the gains are not immense (I don't think).

It is not on the banned list - it's on the controlled substance list.

I'd hazard a guess that because the performance enhancing effect has not been proven/disproven that it is better to have it on a list. I reckon the controlled substance list of the right one.

EPO/HGH/Testosterone etc are on the banned list - for good reason.

Nope - he will have an AAF every time he is over the acceptable level and need to prove how it happened. He was over the level once in his career - every other test was below the level. I think we can safely call that an anomaly.

I do think his testimony will force WADA to check their Salb test though. That is progress I suppose. Uli and Peta will have questions!
