cant help wondering what kind of idiots manage to get up to that kind of speed on that bit of road that they can end up crushing someone into the barriers like that

Strength to the cyclist ????. Scary cause we ride that route sometimes as well. hope that box of a driver spends Christmas in pollsmoor......papa wag vir hom (assuming it's a DUI of course)

As I understand it - they guy who hit the cyclist was not the one at fault - the fortuner overtook a myciti bus on a solid line, clipped it, got flipped into uncoming lane and hit the other car head on - which was flung out of control and into the cyclist. Apparently the driver in the fortuner had several near misses while passing dangerously just before the insident. This was from a twiiter feed - i was not there...

I rode through this incident shortly after it happened after witnessing abysmal driving through hout bay and ip chappies. Horrific scene.

No wonder traffic enforcement in the cape is a farce. The provincial traffic chief can't distinguish between a bicycle and a motorbike.

The young fireman who was directing traffic around the scene was communicative, friendly, positive, confident... oozing competence. The kind of chap you'd want helping if you were in a crisis.

This is what happened. Cyclist was in a way lucky to be flung from bike before it was crushed against guard rail.
