Re Thomas, if a single rider can win the Tdf, the Dauphine, Paris to Nice, Harelbeke and an Olympic gold he is a cycling superstar imo.

Dan Martin is the Irishman who, when he is serious about a race,  often lights it up with daring attacks like during the last TdF when he won the price for the overall most combative rider.

But I am sure you know all this  :D

hahahaha I jest.

I like Thomas. He is a pretty special bike rider.

I however don't have the same Dan Martin obsession some people do. Good rider? Yes. But if memory serves he has around 10 wins as a pro. Similar to Bauke Mollema......

The thing is, to be riding GT's as a team leader or super domestique you are invariably one of the best in the world. But I see him as a japanese supercar, not a classy rolls royce.

But that's just me. I also have no faith in Porte as a GT leader. I'm sure he is a great chap, but he has a lot of demons to face before he can win anything

I have also very little faith in Porte and also agree that Dan will probably never win a Grand Tour.

As far is this Vuelta is concerned i think Nairo has a very good chance... Movistar is too good a team to end the season empty handed.

Its unlikely that Team Sky will win this one.. Kwiatkowski is probably on his last legs after too much racing at a very high level over the last few months while I doubt whether de la Cruz has the quality to win a GT. Maybe a top 5.

Did not get to watch the race....seems like Louis and his team lost time....what went down?

Going through the one town one of the riders hit a barrier in the middle of the road and this caused a split, then the wind hit and the split stuck and then it was three groups with some big time gaps that would not be recovered from and then it was a crazy finish...

and then I apologise for saying and then ...

and then the hub kicked me

Damnit. Was Louis riding at the back again?

And that angry little twit won.

0 for 2 today! Grumpy Eldron.

Ai, again. If you have gc intentions, what is he doing at the back of the peleton? How far back is he on gc now?

Booooooohani. Don't like that oke. Was hoping Trentin or Viviani could have pulled off the W but they both had lousy tactics yesterday. Maybe the stage of 2 halves had them rattled. Ballas bak till 20km to go and then cross winds destroy the race. They did those last 20km at an average of like 51kph.

Louis is 5.35min behind in 27th place, dont see him cracking the top 10 to many strong riders in the top15

Bit off topic but does SA have a team for the Worlds? Not sure how that competition works...

And is Louis going?

Wouldn't it be smarter to send Impey wo 'nans' impi iyeza to worlds?

Him, the Janse van Rensbergs and willie smit?

Or just back Ashleigh to go the distance......

As far as I have it SA can send three riders this year , it depends on the UCI points.

The course is a bit more of a climber course than previous years(4500m climbing for the day) so LM in good form will probably not be a bad pick.

The whole team behind the crash, after we discussed it yesterday, They want to be close to Cummings it seems, was sad last year when they signed him again.

Its like they do not learn but Kelderman and Pinot was also at the back so it is not only them.
