Singlespeed for "new" DH bike build?

So - yes, you'd need some sort of sprung tensioner and the chain would explode if you tried to run it like a hipster-SS.

Yeah this I know. One of the Paarlonians runs his bike SS and I've always liked the idea. The lack of noise and bar clutter really works for me.

slippery slope this ... next you are on a SS roadie bike too and maybe even a nice steel HT

From a riding perspective an ss DH bike makes far more sense than lets say an SS trail bike. But from a technical perspective nothing suffers from chain growth more than a DH bike. It may just be impractical. I wouldn't toss that guide just yet. It might just work better at maintaining tension than one of those SS chain tensioners imo.

I also considered SS as an option when I built up the glory. But in the end I opted for a cheap 9 speed roadie solution. Works well.

So what says the knowers of things? Just your opinions maybe?

I've got a 26er dh bike that I'm resurrecting. And I'm thinking about doing it as a SS. I'm already going to be binning the chainguide and front chainring for a NW and I'm nowhere near a fast guy or anything resembling a racer for that matter.

I've got a trail bike for pedaling uphill.

Thoughts?

SS and full suspension are not a good combination - you could use an old derailleur as a tensioner - but most SS tensioners are not designed for massive chain growth when suspension moves.

Ok. I think you've given me my answer. I've seen DH ss tensioners and they basically look like a derailleur. Gears it is then.

Something like this will give you enough chain growth, not sure if you will be able to find any locally.

Or just use an old Der, anything will do, and set the limit screws in to lock it in the right position.

Yeah was thinking the same with a rear derailleur, but he complaining about the noise too.

Rapide does one. I linked to it earlier.

The single wheel is good for HT bikes but for a dual sus I would get the double wheel. It has more chain growth and better tension similar to a Der.

No dude!!! Im offended that you'd suggest such a thing.

We do not disrespect art like that. The mech who's building the bike up is going to see if he can source the proper thing locally. Otherwise we'll go with the zee that's on the donor bike. The frame is for sale if anyone wants a Makulu with a CCDB btw.

We're going with a NW upfront. No chainguide. I love that bike. It's gonna be rad to have her up and running again.

No doubt the Fury is a MUCH better bike. with World Champion spec components. But it doesn't give me the fizz.
