What does CSA do for you?

Hi, I am really concerned that we as cyclists are not getting the service we deserve from CSA.

I really believe that we should get regular feedback on the Finances, Balace sheet showing income and expenditure, and a business plan showing the target for the upcoming year.

In addition to that, how does CSA manage the provincial affiliation fees? I stay in North West, and cannot even find out who is responsible for cycling in the province, let alone what they are doing, but is costs me R75.00!

So who is getting the money, and where is it going?

I tried in vain to get answers from the office in Cape Town.

Does anyone have a different view?

They send me nice emails regularly advising that my membership has lapsed and that I should renew immediately.... otherwise there not much else they do for me!

I am not a member and don't give a sh*t,but have you bothered to go online and check their website.Last time I looked I could find the financial reports quite easily.

Having been chairman of the Botswana Cycling Association for many years as well as committee member of the Gaborone Cycling Club, one question that is always thrown at every club or association is..what do they do for me,well let me ask you ...what do you do for them?

You mean other than giving them money? Didn't realise I had to do more before I could reasonably expect something coming my way...

Yep, I think that is a perfect valid question to ask when you are forced to hand over money to an organisation for no apparent reason.

The person asking the question does not necessarily have the insight into the organisations functions that Kranswurm as the chairman might have.

Kranswurm? Is that true?

Bottom line is I do NOT want to be a member of this association, but I have NO CHOICE, so yes the question is what do I get for my money.

Then regarding clubs, again why do clubs exist? not sure as I really do not see the need, but I assume that people like to socialize and if so form your club and contribute what you will. but again why MUST I join a club?

If you demand money from me that is all you get unless something grabs my warm fuzzy bits and I want to contribute, but I cannot see why any institution that imposes a "TAX" wants me to do anything except pay them and then I HAVE THE RIGHT TO KNOW WHAT I GET FOR MY MONEY!

Yes you may not want me in your club with that attitude, but I do not want to be in your club, it is forced on me by people that are getting paid to manage the "TAX" and generate value for us people that don't want to belong and those that do want to belong.

All I know, and I might be wrong, is this... coming from being part of the organising committee of a small MTB race in the Karoo. To be "taken seriously" your event has to be sanctioned by CSA. What you get to have your event sanctioned I'm not sure, apart from the honour of handing over a noticeable part of the entry fees to CSA, while its the local farmers that actually did all the work over many years to establish the event. The best is still to come though. If you choose NOT to have your event sanctioned, and CSA finds out a CSA licensed rider rode the event, they can somehow punish or suspend that rider. Thus basically blackmailing the event into paying CSA for fear of losing riders. But... thats what I heard. Welcome someone to prove me wrong.

Who votes in the management of CSA?

Who votes in the management of the provincial bodies?

Who votes in the management of your clubs?

The Exco board at CSA did not vote themselves in...

Same here, when I renewed last year I noticed a portion of my subs was for "East Rand Cycling" I have never heard of them, do not know who appointed them, what they do and value they add. Sounds lie a scam to me, i tried to get answers from CSA but my emails were ignored.

NOT RENEWING THIS YEAR.

If I remembered correctly the CSA was established due to a brain waive from the minister of sport. One body should administrate the sport of cycling. Other sports are also forced to do it like that by law.

Might be that this administrative body has certain goals with regards to development ect. With no subsidy from government ?

So the "average joe cyclist" like us will fund these goals.

So i dont think we should expect too much back?

Please correct me if i am wrong
