SA’s most expensive bicycle

This figure is not entirely ludicrous for a pro cyclist. Just as member of a philharmonic orchestra can spend 2 or 300k on a flute or even more on a violin... That equipment is critical to their performance. But for an average Joe to spend that money on a push bike makes me sick

These pricing comparisons are daft. So the most expensive car in SA will buy you a good couple of houses.... we all accept it, even though the raw materials (metal, plastic, leather, carbon etc) on the car costs a fraction of what the final product does, we understand that. Bring up bicycle prices and we all suddenly want to change the yardstick. ‘Buy what you need, not what is nice to have’. Ok then? Are we all also going to drive a Toyota Etios as that has all we need in terms of transportation? We should all seriously stop being chops and let people who can afford nice things enjoy them.

I would rather spend 250k on a car.

If you can afford R250k for a bicycle , imagine what car you have .....

True story

No one judges when you see a fancy Ferrari at the robots. You just glow in the sound of its beastly engine as it drops you heading off to the next robot or cruises past you in the fast lane on the highway. People buy them because they can and want to, not because they want to be smashing lap records around Kyalami. They may require advanced driving handling skills to ensure they don't wrap it around a tree coming down Witkoppen trying to impress everyone sitting outside Beerhouse on a Friday..

Same goes for anyone who can afford a 250k bicycle. They buy it because they can.

Good for them!

That's not really true though.

I know a few wealthy folks that ride avg R30-45k bikes and i have a friend that took a second loan on his home to buy a R90k bike.

Nor can I, I would have to pay it off.

I wonder if owners of bikes like this pay them off or pay cash?

I have an issue with it because I guess I'm more of a socialist than a capatalist.
