Ya, I agree. I did enjoy the race and the venue - its beautiful, and the rocks made it a memorable event, but to me its way too short and the last bit after the rocks was just dull.

Gwin really showed his class - he nailed the rocks beautifully.

What was I saying about Greg and his cursed flimsy 29er wheel/tyres? :-)

Cant quite work out what Bulldog did - looked like a rookie mistake.

A rock dislodged under his front wheel and sent it sideways

And then he shifted the earth 1 degree on its axis... Got a bit of attention... Dusted himself off and rode down to the finish.

I attendend the race here in Croatia, it was awesome!

I think the telly doesn't quite show how technical the track was.

Steep in places, hectic Rocky sections, and a great location.

Sure, wasn't exactly Champery or Andorra, but the beer is cheap and the sun is out.

Great to watch some saffa boys out on the course too!!

I think Mr Minn summed it up in his comments about the track after Quallies. Something along the lines of the track wasn't the steepest but it was quite technical and that made line choice all the more important because if you made a mistake, you didn't have the elevation to regain the momentum that you lost and that coupled with the track length made it difficult to try and catch up after a mistake. He also mentioned that a lot had been said about the track but that it had mostly come from online forums where he doubted that the desk jockeys even rode bikes.... :D

I unfortunately missed the race but will have to catch up on RedBullTV

I must say I enjoyed the ladies race .... my wife was not very impressed with me shouting out my favourite ladies names like a lunatic whilst they were racing though :P

As long as you only shouted out their names while they were racing....

20 Elite - 9 Junior

Thats about right normally.

Is it really?..I noticed a lot of women absent though.. But then if it's normally low like that then there absence is going to be noticeable. Farina wasn't there.. And then add Manon who's retired and that's 10% of the field!

Must say I think that the new quali rules and the limitations placed on numbers going through will negatively affect the growth of the sport. Time will tell.

Remember that the regulations state that the top 15 riders in women qualify.

So Im not sure how they got to 20 for Croatia ... but anyway.

All of last year there were 15 riders in the finals.

In quali's though there were 26 riders.

Sorry dudes. But whoever says this isn't a world cup circuit needs their head examined

well that's a subjective question obviously, it sure is/was different to anything we've seen before. I thought the finish through town streets really sucked too

a Big issue for me is the local scene.

from what i can see you've got one croatian in the entire field, and he qualified 33rd in men's junior....what next, circuits in Qatar because they'll stump up the cash?

The local scene is not the issue - they brought in a Polish guy who has organised other world cups to help as event manager.

In our races here we didnt have a big presence either.

The issue is not how many riders you have - but whether you fit the criteria for hosting an event.

here is the link to the generic guide to potential event bidders.

There is lots that has to go into the bid - not just how much cash you have. They are very sticky about courses, but also logistics, accommodation, travel time and value for spectatorships.
