Albatross Posted June 22, 2018 Posted June 22, 2018 I don't see the problem ... personally if I am not seeing Mr Min on the top step of the podium I certainly would rather see a Frenchman on the top step They're just keeping the podium warm for Mr Shaw
Sidersky Posted June 23, 2018 Posted June 23, 2018 It counts because they're allowed to race against the rest of the world and klap them - like Pierron is doing... Crashes from the same race... https://www.pinkbike.com/video/487751/Yoh... You can get properly hurt on a track like this.
Duane_Bosch Posted June 25, 2018 Posted June 25, 2018 You guys see Tay-Ho came 42nd at the Les Gets Crankworks DH? Just ahead of Peaty. And Jasper Barret came 4th in Junior Men!!

Duane_Bosch Posted June 25, 2018 Posted June 25, 2018 Barret came 4th in the Junior Men for the Mont-Chéry Downhill race, not the main Crankworx DH race. Oh My bad. That's the "air" dh not so? I've ridden that track. It's got a lot of very unbikeparky stuff in it. If you drop into that thinking it's a chilled bikepark jump trail you are going to be dissapointed. and possibly injured. Shatted myself on that thing. There's a series of steeeeep switchies at the bottom that we dubbed the corkscrew. My one mate got it wrong and flew off the track into an electric cow fence. Very funny.

The wheels are not strong enough and the bike will be too long they said. Aint tech awesome?
Capricorn Posted June 25, 2018 Posted June 25, 2018 The wheels are not strong enough... at the time that was said, they weren't wrong. Bill Shook agreed. 29er as a concept was not the problem, rather its flawed roll-out. For the weight weenies, the then design was sufficient, albeit marginally. For any other riding with more robust demands, it wasn't. As for bike's being too long, was that for the frames to accommodate the wheels? AFAIK, frames have become longer irrespective of wheel size: it was forward geometry that literally pushed the frame sizes to the larger spectrum.
Duane_Bosch Posted June 25, 2018 Posted June 25, 2018 As for bike's being too long, was that for the frames to accommodate the wheels? Also the WC tracks have become "less" tech and more flat out and fast. (Debatable) Maybe Red Bull's influence?

lechatnoir Posted June 25, 2018 Posted June 25, 2018 not as big as this guy He's a big mouth, but backs it up on the bike... I'm on the fandom fence about AG, but can't deny his ability
Capricorn Posted June 25, 2018 Posted June 25, 2018 Also the WC tracks have become "less" tech and more flat out and fast. (Debatable) Maybe Red Bull's influence? There's growing sentiment that the WC tracks are becoming a bit tame. Leogang was bikepark tame long before wagon wheels were a thing at the circuit. Nice to see the same moaners rejoicing at the changes made to Leogang, and NO ONE was bitching about the Les Gets DH track. holy crap the chicks were hauling serious ass. its' lame to honk on about tech being great, given that fact and reality that bigger wheels are not a panacea: there's a track out there waiting too chew up any size wheel. Except for the marathoners and dirt-roadies.

Except for the marathoners and dirt-roadies. I think in general, there needs to be a shakeup in the venues. Ft. Bill and Leogang are really getting long in the tooth. Venues such as Val Di Sole and Andorra are good examples of what a DH track should be: steep, fast and techy. It's just a shame that other venues aren't ponying up the cash to host a round. Let's hope other venues are more willing to do so with the Croatians showing what can be done.
