Should I or shouldn't I upgrade to SRAM 1x12 gx eagle

If you ride a lot of hills (doubtful in Gautengeleng) and ride a lot of events, then I would say yes.

Ultimately it is about your fitness and strength - you can handle it all also with a 1x11. When you're fatigued and got a mother of a climb ahead, the 1x12 will save your bacon...

Waste of money for a 1x12.

Buy a 28 chain ring and be done with it. And the guys saying you'll lose speed are wrong. I can do 45km/h and maintain it easily with my 28 on a 10-42. I've never run out of juice on the flats.

what is your cadence more or less with (28 front - 10 rear) at 45 km/h flat road?

Largely depends on your style of riding and the rides you do

I went from 32t chainring with 10-42 11speed to 34t chainring 10-50 12speed. Made a difference in my life... but I use it for the 12km commute to work (80% road, 20% gravel/dirt where there's no safe shoulder) AND some xc. I should probably get something like a gravel bike for the commute, but given that I only have the one bike the spread really works for me. I often use the 34t - 10 on the commute but never the 34t - 50, whereas on xc it's the other way around. I'd like to believe that as I get stronger I'll eventually use the full spread on xc, but for the moment a 30t with 11-42 would probably be plenty.

My mates that have the greatest ability have extracted non-negligible gains from the upgrade.

A Change is like a holiday.

Then you can sell your old components cheap on the Hub.

The cheaper new 12 speeds parts become, the lower the reselling price on second hand 11 speed parts

 * note I've heard and seen many people have their rear gx mechs break from very small  impacts

meh....

My 1x11 GX rear survived all I could throw at it.

My GX Eagle survived a tumble which showed my Strava go 36.2km/h - 0km/h instantly. Left me with a compressed fracture in my ankle, bruised femur and concussion, to name the highlights. Anyway the Eagle part of the derailleur looks like I took a grinder to it, and it still works perfectly, although it does look haggard.

I’ll stick with GX any day. And I know that eTap Eagle will be bought....

To get to the question, nobody can tell you. People on Eagle will know and can say yes. People who are still on anything else will try to convince you to stay away.

It is your money, make the call.

Do the math. Work out the ratios and look at your riding style and ability.

I've built a spreadsheet of sorts comparing the ratios with various chain rings and cassettes. It helped with my current set up choice.

Just do it, No brainer. I just upgraded, and the beauty of it

Is the wife will never know. The bike is still black so all is still good in her world, all the while, I am now doing the Huddle Park loop like a cycling god.

LMFAO bike is still black all is good. Love it!

All haven't gone the xd route

Uphill I have a 24/36

Flats I have a 44/10 and don't have to decide on which blade to fit for each trail.

Always seem to have an extra gear when riding with my mates...

But SRAM eagle looks so good... Like a pimp chain for your bike.

You mean 44/11.
