Hi all,

i have been trying to search for this, but I haven't found an answer.

Can i mount a 16inch kids bike on a roof rack?

Thanks!

I don't know about the Thule Pro ride system but i have seen the BMX guys use Holdfast QR and rail system for BMX's

Thule Pro Ride is a no go. The middle arm that holds the frame is too long (ie: extends too high) for very small frames.

In the lower positions the arms pushed the bike too far back, and the rear wheel hangs off the back of the rack.

If I was you I would take the bike along with you to a few shops to test the different racks. It's the only way you will get a definitive answer. The specific bike you are wanting to put on the rack may just fit because of some angle/tube/etc that allows you to MacGyver it on.

Pop around to Loading Zone in Ndabeni. They are Thule and Holddast agents.

Thanks!

That was my plan, taking the little guys bike along

Hi,

Looking for tips and advice on roofracks and cruising long distance.

I will be travling to Cape Town with 3 carbon road bikes using Thule 598 Proride's.

Do i need to add any frame protection?

Do the Velo socks work on roof mount bikes?

My concerns are frame rub and wind Buffetting over extended period.

I added bungi cords to the handle bars, and down to the load bars to damped any wobbling (or around the bike frame and to the load bars), and a ratchet tie down (the rope ones) on each bike, also attached to the load bars, to help keep them in place. Would definitely wrap something around the contact points.

Did 7000 km around SA and Namibia like this with two bikes on the roof.

I use them long distance with my mountain bikes (carbon wheels and frames) and its been fine - even on a windy day down Sir Lowries. The buffeting can get a bit scary in strong winds but slowing down makes it easier.

I would check that your pro-rides are tight on the cross bars as they tend to loosen up a bit after installing otherwise I don’t bother with anything else.

Uphill, I just bought myself a similar Jimny yesterday. To be used for our weekend car to MTB races and for the now and again backroads holiday. How was your experience with the Jimny?

A thick layer if electrical tape on the contact point's? High speed bug impact? Sometimes the Karoo bug's are out in force. Not alwase easy to clean them from the car. Any ideas on frame protection?
