Come and help us out then! We haven't mentioned it yet but we are always looking for volunteers to help with timing etc on the day in exchange for the next race entry fee. So if you're sick or injured then contact us! Many hands make light work etc etc

I'm in the same boat. Been sick as a pig and 3 weeks totally broken as a result, a week wiped out before that due to work so I'm guessing the fitness and the lungs which are sticking together with gunk have pretty much written off my event. What's the weather forecast? Last I saw it was raining with some rain on top. Who do we contact to help out?

Correct. We'll have food and drinks at the finish but do not have the budget for refreshment stations at this time.

Budget for a water stop?? Seriously, I'll fill 3 x 25l barrels, bring a tap and a table. stick them half way round and it's done. How much budget is needed for that.

silently wondering where the R364 fee goes to ride a R50 trail, or does one not ask these questions for enduro's?

I'm guessing it cost money to orginize these things and maybe some profit. I have no problem with it.

That said I wont pay to ride a trail that I have already paid to ride.

Unfortunately enduro's are very expensive to run. The costs that make the event possible are just so high because riders share the race cost between only 100-150 riders (compared to 1000's at marathon events for example).

Having quality medical assistance, paying land owners, hiring radios, providing good signage, toilets and the large amount of hidden extra's do add up. The cost of the timing system is also high and very specialised (essentially 5/6 races in one) but we've managed to make it cheaper than any other timing system by developing and building our own timing system.

The guys/girls who run EWC also don't make money out of the event so it's months of their hard work and travelling expenses which goes into the event for free. Overseas, enduro events are at least double the price and it's only thanks to the sponsors (Tygerberg MTB club and Giant) that we can at least cover the costs of the event even with the high entry fee.

We are hoping to grow the sports numbers while keeping the queues etc to a minimum so that once we consistently have 200+ riders at each race the race fee can drop (one of our main goals as we know it's expensive) but we have to grow numbers and provide good race experiences for that to happen and then we're hoping it'll become a more sustainable practice for racers and organisers alike.

Hope that answers your question and no hard feelings on asking it as we used to wonder why too! Hoping you have a blast at your first Enduro on Sunday!

Great! Please contact us if you're willing to help. Basically all our volunteers are busy with timing, signage, etc and making sure the race runs smoothly so if you have a bakkie that can get to the top and 5 hours of your time to help out please contact us :)

We didn't think it necessary for a water stop on this route and are trying to encourage riders to be self sustained.

Any chicken lines will be marked with pink flags and if the advanced line is chosen to be open it'll be marked with blue flags and there'll be warning signs of any drops or gap jumps as well as easy/hard line choices.
