So got myself one of those medal hangers, but that made me wonder what does other hubbers do with all their medals, as the stuff really starting becoming quote a collection.

Do you take a photo and chuck them, do you write a on a small piece of paper what made the race special, do you just see how much you can stack them up?

Crappy pic sorry. This is what I have.

I’ve scaled it down to the fun ride world champ medals but still not enough space.

Many years ago a work colleague who does lots of running got it from me from one of the running expos. Not sure where to get another though.

I give then to kids. They enjoy them. Unless the medal really means something to me, do I keep it. So far there is only 2

What is the other one ?

All medals are either pilfered by my nephews as pirate treasure or used as jewelery by my nieces. So I pretty much have 5 living and breathing medal hangers just running about.

Don't collect them or if they are handed out with insistence bin them. My only SA champs medal was thrown away by an ex girlfriend ha ha ha.

I used to hang them on the hall stand with the helmets etc until I moved 6 years ago and binned them

Hundreds of the bloody things that just sort of hang there

A very tough Trans Baviaans. Sick the week before. Woke up the morning of the race just knowing that it wouldnt be a good day for me. Cramps from 80km. Mud , rain......

Had to dig very deep in that ride.

Ouzo,

If you are looking for another wooden, wall-mountable medal cabinet, contact me, as I have one for sale.

Mine hang from the handle of the door to my office. This usually results in a very loud CLANG BANG KLINK  sound when I go in there in the very early hours and I forget to sidestep them with my arm.

My wife loves them. Basically, according to her the races I should be signing up for are based purely on how cool she thinks the medal is. Her favourite so far was the medal from a race called the Witklip Winter Challenge. She reckons I need to do that one again to get another one. :D

I have just recycled all of mine except for two (Moving house after 17 years quickly puts into perspective what is important...)

I have the medal from my very first MTB race that I did. It was the 2005 Bainsfield Indlovu Classic.

The second one is my Sani Pass Transfrontier medal. I was barely prepared to go and do the 40km from the hotel to the top border post and back again. In the week leading up to the race, there were issues with them tarring the road to the hotel and access was a problem. They moved the start back to the auction yards. 40km became about 65km which doesn't seem like a lot but throw in Sani Pass in the middle and it came a very long day in the saddle.
