Not "scammer" per se but total time waster

Yep, from your side it does sound a little self centered from the seller, probably a millennial if you ask me, late 20s.

Then again, this thread is still in its infancy. We still need someone to ask to hear the seller's side of the story etc etc.

Good on you for getting out of the deal, which you probably should have done when he jacked the price by R5k. If you had gone through with the deal on his terms you would have resented the bike...

(Hey, it is only 2 hours till Friday, this might get saucy soon)

jirrrr there are few things that piss me off like those " millennial" comments

and @hellocolour

You do realize he was just asked to go to a Reputable bike shop in the same street not all over the place like you think and assume. Each to his own though

He actually went physically to the Rev Bike shop without the bike to just talk to them about shipping. If he had time to go there and to talk to them in person I am sure he wasn't that busy. A easy option here would have been to just taken the bike with... He was already there (well according to him when I phoned him) and we could have made the the payment even though it was his "Friends" as he exclaimed. In his chat you could see when he was there

Principle though If you want to sell you need to sell. Don't say you cant wait a week its to long then the next moment say will do it next week. He Flip flops where it suits him at the time of conversation.

Anyways. I gave though everything. I moved on. Hub is a great place to buy and sell stuff and I appreciate the hubbers that actually go the extra mile in BUYING and SELLING.. 2 way street. Will look for the n+1 again soon

You still give this guy the benefit of the doubt??.... you believe what he says, and you believe he actually went to said bike shop?  You have confirmation from the bike shop on this?  Unless you do it just sounds like another BS story!

As others have said, you should have walked away when he upped the price by 5k.  Means instantly he is a shady character, has no morals when you agreed to buy the bike at the asking price.... and shows that this guy has no morals!!

Am glad for your sake the deal did not go through... as I fear your original post may have been more of "I've been scammed"

As you rightly say, plenty of deals will pop up in the classifieds, so you will get your bike and never think with your heart about wanting a bike rather with your head.

I look for the good in everyone and are understanding when you just tell me you cant now or dont have time now. I am actually more relieved this morning that anything as I wanted to give him a fair opportunity to take the bike to the shop and just hand it over to (and in honesty any shop) a shop so we can make payment. Obviously out of past experiences I wont ever pay someone without securing the goods with someone I can hold liable if something happens Aka a bike shop where arrangements have been made.

But ya... Time to get ready to fetch my Trailseeker pack... Exciting times :)

no man, why make biased nitpicking now? I'm late 20's and you're unnecessarily comparing all people my age to the seller clown?

but besides that, the conversation from both sides sound weird and pushy. the buyer uses acronyms the seller doesn't know but doesn't care to explain either.

By the sound of the whatsapp conversation I would say that this is a scam purely based on the asking price. If he paid that much for the bike and its a 2018 model how does it make any sense to sell it for 25-30k?

The other thing raising alarm bells is the urgency of the transaction. "Next week is too late" - I run away when a seller pulls this one on me. Just be glad you didnt pay the guy anything...

What, another one being offended, I would not have seen that coming.  :whistling:

Look, I'm also a millenial, thus I also don't like criticism. Roll with it.

Plus, it's Friday!

My credit card is not safe in that area.....

Its like Makro and Builders... But you can see a use for literally everything in there :) Fully agree

Shame. He seemed difficult and the buyer was very eager to get the goods yesterday.

Sadly whattsapp doesn't seem to resolve anything. Phonecalls so that he can trust you and you can assure him all is legit.

Goodluck with your next purchase.

No. You should have told him that you have a contract at R25k, that you intend to hold him to it and will use the legal process to enforce it.
