E-bikes on Sani2c

The fact that you think an eBike is in any way related to this shows a bit of ignorance.

The power only comes in when you pedal, there is no throttle like an a motorbike.

And also they only boost up to 25km/h normally.

E-Bike "doping" is a very simple process where riders make adjustments to the settings on their e-bikes and most certainly get far more than 25km out ... had words with a rider who said he did this to his bike and he noted it was really so easy to do.

Then all e-bikes are not created equal, and some do have the throttle option ... these guys are one of them, and we have issues with riders on the cycle lane doing well over 60km on them ... the local CT distributor guys were bragging that they have ridden pretty much all the trails in CT on these bikes.

So can anyone say that they were passed by an ebike at Sani? did the guys on ebikes place or come close to placing at all?

if so then some arguments may hold water....

Make no mistake - an ebike you still have to pedal, and in some cases you have to work harder especially when you reach the 25km/h limit and the motor stops assisting....to maintain the speed over 25kph is hard work...

I have done a few rides on an ebike and yes you can and do have a faster average speed, however you don't necessarily go zooming past everyone

Lance still had to pedal his bike too.

My XR650RR is a bit of a handful and hitting the rough stuff whilst trying to keep the throttle constant is hard on the wrist. That means I get to use it at MTB races right?

oh look another ebike complaints thread.

we're going to need a sub forum for this soon, because the technology is not going away.

As long as some people have an advantage over others, in whatever form,or whatever sport, there will be complaints.

To be clear, I am very much for eBikes and the Tech that it brings. But not in a pedal cycle racing category.

We should compare the different threads ....

Less and LESS complaining about ebikes ...

And dare I say some concensus is appearing :

- RACE - no motors, no dope, no help ...

- Adventure riding - no issue, as long as the ebike does not hold up the rest on the downhills ....

for now I am still managing to get there with on my own, with bust knees ... so no ebike for me, not YET ....  BUT, man it would be AWESOME to be able to join a multi-day event, and be able to finish it with the help of an ebike,  even as "ghost rider" ....

This!

Im not sure why its such an unacceptable suggestion to guys who have eBikes? It really does seem to feel like the correct approach.

For the A-batchers worried about e-bikes, pedal assist on ebikes doesn't work over 26km/h. The pointy end of A-batch averages a lot more than 26km/h, so there's zero chance of an ebike featuring.

Technology you say......like takeaway dinners?

To enter an e-bike in a pedal bike race is unethical, and should be clearly against the rules.

For the argument that

a.  You have to pedal to charge the battery to then power the bike, is clever, BUT then the battery must be TOTALLY uncharged at the start of the race, and the race should start with a rather vicious climb.

b.  The "top" end of the motor is 25km/hr means that someone is resting on the climbs and someone is not..........

So no.  e bikes cannot and should not race against normal pedal bikes.

It is like the idea of allowing a Finn to sail against a GP14, or a Indy car to race against a F1 car.  Different class, different technologies, Different Races.

I can just smell it in the future.

E-bike riders protesting for charging points along the way on races. Similar to water points for cyclists.

Or even a battery change pit stop.

Ebikes are welcome on the Great Kei Trek, but you'd better make a plan to economize with your battery on the first 2 days. They are about 20km longer than the range of an ebike, and you don't want to be riding an uncharged ebike the last 20km of those 2 days. And I'm not organising a mid day charging station[emoji16]
