now that would be awesome .... especially if they can come in at the SLX pricing range!

Cannot agree more... SLX 12 speed ftw with a nice close ratio cassette without any ridiculous jumps.

Re those marathon races and pushing on the downs... that's why the courses are so non technical surely. You know to avoid most of the field pushing their bikes on the downs.

Most extreme event? Erm... take a gander at Swiss Epic and Tour Divide...

By dominated the Epic are you saying that there were more 1x Group sets than 2x Group sets or that the winner was on a 1x?

For me I wont go 12 speed until they sort out that stupid 8 tooth jump from 42 to 50... you lose your momentum and traction. It sucks. The ratios need refinement.  It is effectively an 11 speed cassette with a 50 slapped on for marketing reasons. They had to squish everything closer as well which has lead to other issues.

I hope that Shimano is taking a long hard look at all of this and is planning to sort it out.

By dominated I refer to the stats on the total number of competitors that were riding 1x systems. Something like 80% if I recall.

The 42to 50jump isn't big if you using it when required. On a flat road Yes it's a big jump but then why would you need it on anything below 15% gradient? Train harder maybe?

42 - 50 is a big jump even if you riding up a wall

rode 1x11 for about 3 years, upgraded to 1x12 only just a few weeks ago. The jump is massive and something to get used to, to avoid spinning out and losing momentum.

Come on now ... that is just a quick fire excuse to slow down to slower than walking pace and then be able to get off and walk :P

All the assumption is that this is going XTR ... what if they do come out with SLX or XT first .... recon SRAM is in the K@K@ then?

Apparently the larger gear as seen on the 1x12 SRAM is a direct relation to people riding 29'ers #JustSaying

I cannot disagree more strongly. The jump is perfect if used in the appropriate conditions. No dating period required.

Not that I ride a 1x12, but common sense says that if you know how to ride a bike and anticipate when you'll need to shift, there should not be a problem. If you spin out its probably because you should have admitted defeat and changed into the 50 some time before.

I wonder if there are any stats in say XCO re the number of mechanical failures/break downs due to drivetrain issues in say 2010 (or whenever 2x systems were still prevalent  vs 2017/8. I can recall a couple of incidents with 1x riders losing/breaking chains  in the last say 18 months. I cant help but think that the frequency of this kind of incident must have reduced since 2/3x went the way of the dodo. All that mud clogging up a f/d and chain suck issues must be sorely missed :-)

He got banned, twice. Once as golefty, the next as f15 something or other.

such a pity as he really does have a worlds worth of knowledge from many years experience as a rider and has very advanced knowledge on suspension, etc from an engineering standpoint ..... as in working experience that many engineers wish they could have been involved in.

why was he booted and by whom?

Still 2 levers on the LHS of the bars... vs 1 on a 1x

Then again if one goes wider on the bars you have more real estate for tech gadgets too :P
