Cool idea, will be sweet to do this in reverse, jan smuts up through r/burg then up past zoo section gonna hurt too i reckon.

Bit of a bug for those trying to get pb times if they have now worked out how to pace themselves for normal route, wonder how the times will be affected.

Told my missus that i need a new bike cos my current one is for clockwise routes only.

told her is to do with the crank length and casette ratio divided by N+1.

regretably it is indeed not being believed, strange that.

Sorry if I missed it, read the first few pages and then skipped along... So I've read a lot about how the reverse route will change the dynamic of the race. But do we know the motivation for doing it yet?

I can only think route safety potentially and also perhaps a drop in participant numbers and trying to spice the event up?

I think it was done to keep it " new" things will get boring, they have run out of start/end points.

I hear you. And I get that the guys who actually "race" this event are in the minority, the real money spinners are the guys just doing it for fun. But apart from their monetary reasons to drive entries, I don't really see the point of reversing the route.

What a load of rubbish! Go waste your time on your own!

Humble pie eaten.

Sorry in order....

In this particular instance, gluttony would be a virtue.

Jip...I have friends that normally do MTB training and races that did not enjoy doing the 94.7 and did NOT enter the last few years (last half was too difficult for weekend warriors and they just want to enjoy it and not K@K off so much) - he actually mentioned last year they should swing the route around...now they are entering because of the route change.

I think they realized less people entering the and going down each year...this should boost the entries again...

I for one am looking forward to the reverse route...BUT the first half WILL be really TOUGH!

I also recon it has to do with road logistics.

If I look at the map, we will be starting at Auto&general and finishing on Mnandi, meaning they do not have to close down the entire river sands. Seeing as the R511 is still closed.

This combined with having a less strenuous last half, for the fun riders, could have been a driving force.

Had a proper look at the route again.

First 50km is going to be killer, especially for us heavy okes (>95kg).

Previously we could relatively easily hang on all the way until Jan Smuts and then solo the last 20kms of climbs at our own pace having made up allot of time with the bunch in the preceding 70 odd kms.

This time though the lightweights will drop us fairly early, we will be hitting the M1 in much smaller groups than before but at least it is downhill till the "final" group of climbs around kyalami.

Actually think a sub 3 is going to be harder this way round because of the splintering that will happen early on, unless if you have a good group of guys that want to work together as you hit the M1.
