Sorry if this is has been discussed before.

Im mainly a XC riding and love technical, rock gardens and descents, I need a more aggressive tyres, I got the  MAXXIS Aggressor for the rear and DHRii for the front, great tyres but OMG are they heavy, the price you pay for great grip i suppose, but unlike Europe we dont have cable cars to get us to the hills, any suggestion on great grip in a lightweight tyre, i often ride 45km and over 1000 Meters of climbing, just not suitable with 2.2KG of tyres

Lightweight enduro tyres is a bit of an oxymoron.

You're not going to be able to get any lighter casing from Maxxis than EXO for their more aggressive tyres and rightly so. More aggressive treads will always be paired with tougher and heavier casings, because of their intended use.

So, either bite the bullet with slightly heavier tyres (in all seriousness, any AM tyre under 1kg is light in my eyes) or run lighter trail tyres, but sacrifice grip and durability.

2 options - a spare set of tyres for big days, or a cup of cement to help with the extra weight... you of all people can afford a bit of power loss.

As Odinson said, lightweight aggressive tyres are a waste of time.

what about Nobby Nics, they look aggressive enough but are way under 800 grams

Do you like not having traction, because that's how you don't get traction...You use Nobby Nicks :P

A good alternative is Onza Canis 2.25 for the rear and Onza Ibex 2.25 for the front. They give good grip and have minimal roling resistance, not too heavy either. By going for the slightly narrower profile you save lots of weight. I had them on my bike before swopping out for the exact combo you have now - it's not as grippy, but worth it if you wanna save some weight.

I'm Running Ibex 2.25 front and Maxxis Ardent Race 2.35 on the rear, Its not to bad. The Canis and the ardent race is pretty similar I'd say. Ardent maybe firmer rubber. Its probably to lightweight for Eselfontein Enduro but its definitely tougher than a typical xc tyre like the Icon which I ripped apart (exo sidewall). I haven't pinched a rear tyre since running the Ardent Race  on the back so there is something to be said for that. Maybe its the longer travel bike. However, I'm now quite use to it and I love being able to attack sections without holding back.

I would say its a nice trail setup.

The Ibex grips like hell but It is notably slower than the ardent race. I first ran the Ardent Race on the front with a Icon 2.35 on the rear. But that's pretty XC. How about a Forcaster in front with Ardent Race on the rear?

I have used and loved Nobby Nic tyres in the past light good grip and rolling. Currently running Rocket Ron ss front and Racing Ralph ss rear and for me it's a great combo. Have run onza canis and ibex great grip but most definitely not light and they don't roll great. The Maxxis Ikon and ardent felt good but only ran them on 2 short rides (20-30km) at dirtopia no real rock gardens so can't say how durable they are.

A Geax Saguaro isn't a bad rear tyre. Thinking of getting one or a Barzo for when I do some long stage races.

Given the family dynamics at the moment it won't be in the near future, but I can dream

My experience has been a bit different to yours. Compared to the OP's current combo - DHR2 and Aggressor (which I also run), I have found it rolls alot better, and we're talking about 700gr lighter for the 2 tyres - not the lightest, but a good intermediate for XC/Enduro

Also ridden Ikon/Ardent (currently running Ardent Race/Ardent on my XC bike), it's fast and light, but I definitely wouldn't go as far as saying it even comes close to what can be considered an enduro tyre (maybe Ardent on the rear). The very reason I now have an ardent race on the rear on not an Ikon like before is because I cut the casing of the Ikon (29x2.35") after a 3km ride at Wolwespruit on what can only be described as a pebble.

But yeah, OP, I think the solution is just to suck it up if you want decent grip, it's just the price to pay unfortunately. Your current combo is in my opinion one of the best available for the type of terain we have in the cape.
