Fabric Scoop vs Fabric Cell

Hi All

In the market for a new saddle and narrowed it down to the following 2 saddles.

Fabric Scoop tried and tested with good reviews all round

Fabric Cell (new kid on the block) with air pockets rather than foam

I'm ditching my Power saddle for now as the warranty issue has left a sour tase in my mouth. Want to see what else is out there.

Opinions?

Edit - My Power saddle is 155mm so the Cell is 155mm and the scoop is 142mm. Dunno the impact of that yet

I'm sorry I can't comment on the saddles, but I can comment on width, If a 155mm is the right width for your siting bones on the saddle, you will have nothing but discomfort with 142mm   After a short distance, your hips, your groin, your Gluts will be asking you to get off the saddle or stand for the rest of the ride.. You only touch the bike on 3 points, Hands, Feet and ass, try your best to make sure they are comfortable.

Scoop elite gel radius is 155mm.

I find the fabric scoop to be incredible value for money.

Comfortable

Relatively cheap

And long lasting.

Very well made. Haven't had an issue with the 3 I own

So I went and got the Fabric Cell. Remeasured my sitbones and at its widest I was 146mm. So a 142mm might still be ok but 155mm is optimal.

Going to give it a good few spins and see how it feels. Have a 30 day money back gaurantee on it so if not happy I will go swop for the Scoop Radius 155mm

I bought the Radius by mistake and half way through the Argus was ready to just crawl on my hands and knees to Greenpoint.   The Scoop Flat was much better and I prefer it.

14x mm width

I don't necessarily agree here..

Every persons (sit)bone structure is different

And every saddle brand and its various models contours' are different

Just because one brand its narrower than the next does not mean it would be less suited to your needs.

You will have to try it out to be 100% sure

I agree on different saddle contours, that at the end of the day is why we choose our own personal brand preference. One that suits our needs for sure, but your sit bones need the support, also your hips, and a few hours in the saddle, with out this, you will feel it. Could you choose wider than you need..? I'm sure you can but that extra width will get in the way on the down pedal stroke, (great for a spin on the promenade) Can you go narrower than you need..? Ive been there and I say hell no.... Aching groin, aching back, aching hips,

Glad your sorting yourself out MTB-More

So fitted it last night and got it to where everything feels good. (Will get a propper fit over the weekend done on it)

Will head out tonight to test the Cell properly. On quick up and down the pavement without a padded short it felt really good though.

Will report back tomorrow on my thoughts

Got it from Cyclelab (Pricematched to Bike addict) @ R990

Ok so I wanted to post this last night already but decided to wait until morning.

I had to obviously adjust the saddle 2 times while riding to get the angle just right. There is a bit of "tjommie" rubbing but I think it is because I was used to the Spez saddle that has a gap and 3cm shorter so it is something to get used to but in saying that after 21km at 22km/h avg (MTB) I did not feel any discomfort

Where my tailbone usually starts going numb on the Spez saddle this one didn’t have any effect at all. My Sit bones were comfortable as can be. I haven’t ridden on anything like this before and it literally feels like you are sitting on an air cushion.

When riding over rough terrain I was able to stay seated where I would have normally stood up. The cushioning effect is very apparent then. It did feel like it was pushing me to stand up like with a rebound of a spring. Very weird how it reacts BUT comfortable though it all.

I will over the weekend take it for a 50km+ ride to see how it reacts on longer segments but I can already feel the difference on my sit bones and tailbone just after one ride.

Look a saddle is very personal and there is no one size fits all BUT the Cell is one of the most comfortable saddles I have ever been on so far.

Also the shell is flexible so you have like a spring on an air cushion. It’s very soft and sits very lekker. I'll definitely keep it for a while

Correct technique dictates you should not be sitting down on rough terrain but rather be standing up and using your legs and arms as suspension.

Maybe you should look into a Brookes saddle, they tend to be "very hard to kill".[emoji6]

Yea I know. It was just for testing how it reacts and how much it actually absorbs from the gravel.

Also forgot to mention. The Cell nose part is shaped downwards so getting back in the saddle after standing nothing snagged or caught. So was easy to get up and sit down again without having to pull up your shorts again
