  1. 1. Do you do it?

    • I only text when I am stationary at traffic light, I know it is still illegal but I pay the fine and it has nothing to do with you.

    • I only use my phone when I need the GPS function, yes it illegal but I need to find my destination.

Why is it that so many fellow cyclist and motorist text and drive.

As cyclists we are always saying that the one cyclist skipping stop streets and Red lights give a bad name and image. So we want them to adhere to the road rules.

Yet so many people text and drive and many of them are cyclists.

Edit: So are these the same cyclist who fight for adhering to road rules but they don't when they are in their car?

Maybe this poll can get me understand the general feeling out there towards this rule.

It has been shown that texting is more dangerous than drunk driving.

Then there is also the fact that you irritate the person behind you when the light goes green and you sit and stare at your phone or try and finish your text before you pull away to just make it and leave the person behind at another red light.

EDIT just to clarify wrt to GPS usage, using it like this is an excuse most people use. "I am not on my phone, just using GPS"

This is illegal, as per the picture.

When I had my bike I'd pull up next to people at traffic lights and if they were on their phones I'd rev my VERY LOUD bike hard. They'd generally stop very quickly.

This is something I admittedly do as well. In fact you can generally see  who is on their phone by their driving behavior before you even get to them.

So to the people voting for option 2, you know it is illegal and you endangering your life and that of others, why do you do it?

EDIT:

I am talking here about the people holding their phone in hand and then having to look down at it. Mine is mounted on dash so when I need to use GPS I can glance at it and hear the directions.

The reason it is illegal is because it is dangerous....will it take and acident before you change your mind?

On one of my previous cars, I was able to activate the siren by keeping in the remote button for a few seconds. I would do this to lots of people with their phones in their hands on against their ears. 90% of the time the phone would vanish and they would still be in the same pose. The other 10% just didnt give a rats......

Never mind texting - what about yaking away and not concentrate on driving?

Happens so often now - driving behind someone (often in the fast lane) who is driving slowly and car drifting in and out of the lane, then you manage to get past them and see they are having a good ole chat on their phone! What do you do? I hoot profusely,

If you text and drive, you are a pooos!

No poll needed to tell you that.

I was hoping that the texters will come and explain there logic here  :whistling:

Edit: I see we have at least one cyclist /Forum member that will keep texting until someone is killed before reconsidering.

I really hope it is not one of us non-texters

People who blatantly endanger other people’s lives in the first place, rarely have the moral substance to explain their actions.

That’s why you get sworn at when you point out their indiscretions.

I'm sure the technology exists that would turn off Whattsap, Facebook, Instgram, Tinder etc when a certain speed is reached.

IPhone X has that capability but the user must activate it
