You can take the test

South Africa is one of the most unequal countries in the world. If you think about your household, how rich or poor do you think you are compared to other South Africans? SALDRU has developed this income comparison tool to help you see how income is distributed from the poorest to the richest in South Africa. In four easy clicks, you can find out where you are in South Africa’s income distribution and how you compare to the rest of the population.

Having a wife and 3 kids that don't work makes mine look low(to me), yet I am still well above a "pass" mark in %. The 1% that they talk of must be earning a lot more than the R48k per month. There is no ways that the cars and houses in this country that cost millions only belong to 1% of the nation..........

I read that Rio Tinto will  be shutting operations in the Richards bay area. Saldanha steel  and the number of retrenchments happening in the ZA region will have disastrous effects on the gini coefficient.

Far from ZA becoming more equal under an ANC government they have widened it. And their disastrous policies will widen it even further. Then blame WMC or some other BS factor.

Interesting point you make

I know a car guard in SA, Edgar

Have known him for well over 20 years

He is well known and liked by the housewives and regular shoppers

Saw him again recently, he is still at it, albeit he is a bit frailer has less hair and only a few teeth left

He started off on his own and yes he now works for a "company", but there is no way they can control how much tips he gets

Would love to know how much he has earned....tax free over all the years

I saw a beggar this morning at a traffic light on the way to drop my girls at school.

In the minute or so I was at the lights he received R50 , 2 x R10 notes and a R20 note.

I do not doubt that there are days were he is lucky to get R50 the entire day, but I'm sure on a good day he can walk away with a few k.

The two up the road from me wont be earning much more in the future if they continue kneeling in the middle of the road in this murky weather

Try anywhere from 1500k avg on an avg day and well over that somewhere around 3k I think. Cant remember where, but I read an interview with one a few years ago. Damn, more than a few years ago and thats tax free. I dont have an issue. If anyone feels thats what they want to do then do, better than stealing etc.

I also remember, years ago, 2 friends of mine one with a mechanic shop and another with a computer shop, asked guys at the robots to hand out fliers and they will get payed. On both occasions the guys refused cause they earn more begging!!
