These are all cycling shops you mentioned and does not reflect a "one man band" selling on The Hub...not the same situation.

Do what is right, either refund entire purchase or reach a compromise on the repair costs. Latter would be better and save plenty headaches.

Black Downtube = Black Chainstay

Green Downtube = Green chainstay

So the owner isn't a friend you're helping out?  If you're buying from the hub or gumtree that makes you the owner and the accountability lies with you.
