Shame, DSTV's aussie commentators running EddyB's form / career down into the retirement box.

Interesting fact: The status of the Tour de France in 2011 at the stage 16 point was almost a mirror image of the Tour de France 2019, with a surprising frenchman in yellow in Thomas Voeckler (Alaphilippe) and a finish in Gap.

Also wasn't it the descent into Gap, way back, where Armstrong went all CX and off-roaded across that field?

How was the peleton dropped so hard on this stage, winner + breakaway 11km ahead of them?

My guess is that all the GC teams are taking it easy to prepare for the next 3 huge days in the mountains and most other teams had guys in the breakaway so no-one was really prepared to chase.

Wouldn't the Yellow Jersey French guy have wanted to finish closer to the front than 20mins behind?

Is huge gaps like this normal I would have thought 5-10mins maybe not 20kms+?

Four things.

The size of the break away when it formed..

No reason to chase, no one up the road threatened GC

Special rule today regarding time cut..save energy where they can.

And yes 3 flippen hard stages await.

Depends on who is in the breakaway. If best placed guy in the breakaway is 30 mins down on GC, then they don't care to lose 20 mins to him as then he'd still be 10 mins down on GC and therefore no threat. So basically, the gap that they let the breakaway get will be based on time of the best placed guy in the breakaway

That descent is what I show people when they ask what's exciting about cycling...

I went to a bar to try catch the end of Milan San Remo and it was full of guys watching the rugby (Stormers). Somehow managed to convince them to switch the channel to the cycling "just for a second". I copped some abuse for a minute after the channel was changed, but as soon as the race went over the Poggio and the guys were descending like demons, all those rugby guys were glued to the screen and we watched right till the end of the race. They loved it.

I wonder what was it with Tony Martin trying to barge Luke Rowe off the road?

Luke Rowe on Tony Martin: "We're both doing the same role, both doing the same job, it was nothing really. I rolled over the line with him, it's all good, we shook hands. We just got in each other's way. That's bike racing. All good." #TDF2019

They have both been sent to the principal's office

Apparently both have been kicked out of the tour [emoji15] for both to get the boot something else must have happened leading up to that little bit we saw

Aaaah the full clip clears things up, stupid from both of them.
