Giant Dropper Post

I'm sure people have heard this before. My Giant dropper has lasted me 4 years so far... but only because it's failed inside its warranty period and I've managed to get a new one each time and start the warranty period again.

Meh... never again.

I've had mine more than 4 years - one of the mk1's and it is still working like a dream. Pressurised the cartridge once - no complaints.

Out of interest, what is the warranty period?

Had mine for a good few years now....still smooth as silk....just make sure you don’t ever overtightnen the seatpost clamp though as it then tends to stick. Know this is not your exact problem.

Interesting about the cartridge recharge, when mine died I was told it was disposable parts. Shop didn’t try sell me a new one as they knew I wanted a Lynne so they had nothing to gain. Happened to a friends as well and my wife’s is busy dyin too, all roughly the same age. Will replace with a Lynne anyway as it feels a more solid product with no side to side rock and fully serviceable.

Lyne DEFINTELY has side to side play and its just something almost every dropper has , and like most droppers the lyne runs on brass keys that are replaceable

I've heard of quite A few guys doing recharges on the cartridge , not sure how much but probably not cost effect tive , new cartridge from lyne is around 800 randelas

When i got my first one it was 2 years (that one failed in 15 months) then they dropped it to 1 years on them.

Oddly they never had side to side play until they replaced the cartridge the last time. I got my first one when they were about R1200 a pop. Think they are a fair bit more now.

Rapidé has a good product at great price, Lyne too.

Porqui and I have discovered that the giant dropper is actually more serviceable then you think. Not for the stantion as you have found out, but they get play in them up and down and the release buttons on the cartridge start messing around... these cartridges loose air over time and can actually be recharged. Have taken 3 of them to McNaughton's and charged us R30 a pop and sorted all 3 out. This was for a v1 post which no spares are available anywhere in the world! We tried!

Last last cartridge McNaughton's said they can't do them, but they tried any way and it worked, so if you get yours done, just ask them to try. 150psi is what we filled to, but it's probably slightly to much.

Now if you get all the dead ones together post them to me (I'll pay postage) that would be great. I'll fix them and pass them on - have a friend I would gift one.

Where is McNaughton's?

I have some boot struts that need a regas on my car

And I'm assuming the regas only works if the seals on the strut/cartridge are still good?

My wife’s 2nd gen 100mm Giant dropper cartridge died . Are the replacement cartridges completely discontinued for these ? And are there any places in Joberg where I can get the cartridge regased?

I have had mine regassed successfully. Any company that can regas the cylinder for the gas struts for cars and vans can do it.

I had mine done by McNuaghtan's in Cape Town. Cost me R50.

Phone them maybe they know of a place in PE

They have a branch in Alberton.

All Gen 1's are discontinued, might get luck with Gen 2. Contact  the agents Omnico and ask.

This was on a Gen 1 dropper, but should work just the same on a Gen 2, only the interface at the ends differed.

Regas company might look at the cartridge and say it won't work, but ask them to try any way. Had a couple regassed
