Cannondale SuperSix HillClimb <5kgs

did a half hearted search on your thread but couldn't find some info - what do the following items weigh? stem, seatpost, seat?

As you know I'm on a similar quest with my hardtail but function comes before weight, easy to say as my goal was 8 and I'm approaching 7.5 - if a few of my ideas don't work, I might be able to help with those 80 grams - Otherwise if you're in the mood for blowing some cash on your build, numen stem 65g, schmolke seatpost 65g, ax lightnes saddle 64 - all on R2bike - my stem and seatpost were a bit heavier because I'm "bigger boned" than you and because its an MTB I made sure they were all weight appropriate

Saddle - 115g - Waiting for a 85g one to arrive this week

Post - 125g (I think) - Cut it and didn't weigh it (Missed a Schmole on eBay recently for £102)

Stem- 295g - Integrated bar and stem. Waiting for a replacement set of bars, and hoping they come closer to the quoted 265g for bar/stem

Currently waiting on new style HiMod fork to arrive +- 50g lighter, +30g saving on saddle, and hopeful saving on replacement bar, should go sub 5kgs

Looks like you have it covered and if that saddle doesn't work for me, you get another 21g off - I know 300 euros is ridiculous but that's 65g on the seatpost right there

Have you looked at Darimo? Carbon specialist from Spain. Made a 60g seatpost for a friend riding a 4.4kg Supersix.

he might be able to help you out with shedding any surplus weight.

that all sounds terribly expensive!

it's a disease, much like Colnagos,  thankfully it only applies to the one bike - and it all started with a really inexpensive second hand frame for me and then down the rabbit hole I went - very satisfying and I totally understand why this machine must be sub 5.  Also, in defence of weight weenies, a lot of this stuff moves to the next bike so it's a once off cost (yes I just justified it)

Too true, Im onto my 3rd frame in pursuit of the lightest my budget will allow. Parts have traveled between bikes and also been upgraded, but any 'old' parts have gone onto my now 'winter' caad12, which in its prime weighed 6.13kgs, not bad for an alloy 56cm road bike.

My weenie build gets very little road time sadly, and I recently took my 'new to me' Supersix Evo out, and I now have the debate in my head of whether I need to keep Weenie or not. The new bike (below) weighs a hefty 6.5kgs with Ultegra 6800, full alloy cockpit and 'heavy' gen 1 lightweights, but man, the ride is incredible!

Cool project. Reading this gave me a bit of deja vu - I got carried away a few years ago with a Scott CR1 build.

* Is there a weight difference between the 2 EVO frames you've got? If so, you could considere swapping the weenie build's frame with the newer EVO (after sanding it etc)?

* Tuning the Ultegra mechanical (light screws, clamps etc) could save you some weight over ETAP. (Looks like you have done some work on the RD already)

New eBay Chinese saddle arrived today. 85g

Current weight, minus 23g Blendr Low Garmin Mount, 5.020kgs

Would be interested to know how comfy you find the saddle, whilst i know you are mostly using it for short rides and hill climbs, you have said that will be riding sometimes as your regular bike.... so would be interested to see how you find a full carbon, no padded saddle.

You're going to have to put on mechanical red 22 to shave those last few grams.

They actually not too bad. When you spend so many hours in a saddle you get used to it. I can't stand a soft poofy saddle. The harder, as little padding as possible the better. Decent bibs and you'll be fine. I have the selle SLR carbono on my race bikes and if I had the bucks I would buy the selle with no padding at all(I think it's even lighter than the saddle above). But it definitely isn't for everyone and I have never ridden for longer than 6 hours on it.

EDIT: Google the selle italia C59.

So here goes, frame first:

Weenie frame prior to paint strip weighed 785gr.

Weenie frame post strip weighs 710gr.

Weenie fork prior to paint strip weighed 321gr.

Weenie fork post strip weighs 309gr.

New Supersix Frame (with paint, same size) weighs 870gr.

I cannot say what this would weigh once stripped, but it maybe lighter, we'll never know, it aint happening.

New Supersix fork weighs (with paint, uncut steerer) 275g.

I actually currently have a new style Supersix fork being sanded and cleared. so hopefully that will come out at around 260gr. or less once the steerer is cut, resulting in an expected saving of around 50gr. give or take.

Moving onto the groupset. I could go to Red22 and sand down and dremel the levers for max saving. Standard difference as stated by Sram is that the Mechanical Red22 is 60gr. lighter vs eTAP. For now however I will ride and enjoy eTAP. I have fitted a carbon inner plate that weighs 2gr. and 5.6gr Jockey wheels from MT.Zoom, jockey wheels saved nearly 20grs alone and the inner plate around the same amount.

I will decide next summer where this project is going, do we head toward sub 4.5kgs with some TUNE ultralight tubs and Lekki8 brakes. Currently a wheel set on eBay that weighs 770gr, which is 220gr lighter that what I have, but at £1700 I cannot justify them.

Here is an example of what I mean by dremeling Red22 levers and paddles

I cannot comment on the saddle, besides that I rode it around the streets last night at home (in the dark, 16:30pm darkness now with daylight savings) and it feels ok. Hopefully with positioning and a chamois it'll work.

You're going to have to put on mechanical red 22 to shave those last few grams.

So I have a new style fork being stripped and cleared, which should save around 50grs. (Fingers crossed). There is also a 64gr saddle in the works, saving another 21grs. The Red22 Mechanical may happen next summer anyway, I am not ruling that out. I'd like to find it cheap enough that I can keep the eTAP however.

I'd love a C59, but £400 is a load of cash for something that may not work for ones bum. Comfort is key I believe and if my saddles don't work, I have my go to Arione OO that will find its way back to this bike.
