This is the end of week 1. While the racing has been really hard and fast, it hasn't even begun. There names in the top 30 that will shift significantly. 1 bad day in the mountains will cost you up to 5min. One good day in the mountains will gain you 4min.

The mountain stages are brutal this year and add the weather and anything can happen.

I agree.

Thing is, there are many people that somebody like Yates will need to leapfrog.

Yes some very very good people.

The biggest danger man to me in this Giro is Amador. Not to sure what the peloton was thinking letting him go that day up the road. He can hold his own in 3 weeks and in the mountains.

Although I have to be completely biased and say Im hoping that Jan Polanc get a solid GC at the end depending on team orders the next bunch of days.

Wasn’t Yates mouthing off that he was the one to beat and that he was the favorite to win the Giro?

Not sure those were his words - more along the lines that others should be afraid of his capabilities. Regardless, he didn't make many fans with what he said.

That was the jist of it, I would have remembered it if I cared.

I am struggling to figure out who I want to support for this Giro.... Tummy was my man, and I think he could have done well if it wasnt for those darn disc brakes that cut him up like that!

Yates is effectively >3min down, Nibali ~2min... I can't imagine it'll NOT be interesting if those two decide to stake a claim at something. Last time Nibs had to do something fun in the Giro, it was pretty awesome stuff. Let's hope Yates can manage something to entertain too.

Was it the brakes? I read it in one one the mags that it was a chainring.

Dont be absurd! It was the disc, its clear to see!

Give the guy at least a hint that you are being sarcastic, everyone isn't necessarily up to speed with your post history regarding disc brakes. ;)

Primoz has won every multi stage race he has entered in 2019...

It is waaaay to early to ask, but I will do it anyway:

Will Roglic ride all three GTs this year?

Can he win them all in the same calendar year, this year?

He might never hit this kind of form ever again, sport and luck is a funny thing.

recent Giro , Stage 18 GC pink jersey

2018 - SYates, CFroome 3:50mins back

2017 - TomD, would lose pink for 2 days in stage 19 and 20

2016 - Special K has 4 mins over nibbles. but cracks on stage 19, even chaves holds pink for a day

so ja. this is far from over. it is a real pity TomD is not there, as he would have been up there surely. now PR needs to keep his eyes on the pure climbers only.

Then get with the program, we don't have time for slackers and people falling behind, this isn't  Team Dimension Data!

It is only the beginning, well actually the main arm wrestle hasn't even started and most of those hanging about the top 10 or 30 are going to exit pretty quick when the road starts going up day after day. Yates and co shipping time actually goes back to what his strengths are as an attacking rider. Unfortunately he need to manage that with the fatigue angle so he doesn't crack again.

It's the Giro, anything can happen. It's not like the race doesn't have a solid history in this regard. Nib's rolling StevenK and then Chaves (and he was 5 min+ in 2016), Froome last year,

People have to do something to change their position as we head up the road. Chaves, Yates, Landa, Lopez (and Bilbao), Carapaz and a number of others can't play for a podium and the pink jersey could be having to cover a large number of threats as a result.

Disks are so safe they will soon be launched on toddlers balance bikes. But only here in this country will the toddler have to wait a few years before racing his balance bike at the 947 kiddies ride or run the risk of a DQ.

Going to be interesting to see the tactics from all the GC contenders. Roglic has a time buffer already and he has some more in the bank which will pay out on the Stage 21 TT, which means he can afford to let people go up the road much more than any of the other podium contenders. The others can't afford to lose time on their rivals so they will flinch sooner methinks.
