Who still carries a spare tube? On a tubeless bike...

My mentality is fine thanks. I won't ask you for a tube.

I carry spares that nobody else has. Seat clamp, derailleur jockey wheel, valves, many different types of chain links. Most people don't even know how to change a chain link or even put in a tire plug.

I have been riding MTB a long time, only once ever needed a tube in a race. I waited a while and a fun rider in another race stopped and helped me, for which I was grateful. My point is there are tubes available in races, some people would share. Other spares, like I mentioned, people do not carry and these are pretty light.

Okay, so tubes are available at races... from someone else who had the foresight to carry one... for you? The mind boggles.

I always have one duct taped to my seat post. Dont really care if people think it looks stupid! In a MTB race in Northern province I had a major sidewall tear from sharp rocks. Had to wrap tape around the tube to stop it sticking out the side of the tyre tear it was so big.

I would have had to have walked a long way to get to next water point, and probably would not have finished race as the mechanics at WP had no spare tyres. I'm not interested in spending lots of money on a race and then not even finishing.

Do you know where you can take bombs to be recycled? I got a pile of used bombs from the last 5 years.

Any steel scrap dealer............there are plenty around

I kind of meant more reuse than recycle. I.e. is there anyone who refills and reseals bombs?

If you don't carry a spare tube, don't expect to use someone else's when your paltry plug fails to save the day.

And if you do, and much later you see them in the parking lot, the least you can do is greet, or offer to buy the person you took it from, a cold drink.

The  new tubolito S-Tubo-MTB Tube is a bit expensive but will get one for the Transbaviaans as it is very small and very light.

Baron the Spez tube is maybe double the size of the "orange" unit.  Less than half the size of my other tubes ..... and not expensive !

(and NO, I am not a Spez owner ...  :cursing:    just super happy with their small tubes..)

I have needed a tube twice and both times in a race so decided to bite the bullet and buy one of those Tubolito tubes. Expensive but my view is that for each ride with a lighter pocket I ammortise the cost!

I ride 29er. I carry 650b tube (sometimes 2) always. 2 reasons. Sucks when a buddy (often 650b) has a flat and courtesy states that you can't just go on. Other thing. I'm pretty good at making my 29er seat ghetto should my tubeless come undone. Just slice the slightly smaller tube in half and save the sealant in a plastic sakkie. 2 bombs and a pair of gloves to save your skin from freezeburn. Remove valve core for the first inflation. Then use pump to get the right pressure with the core in. Sounds like a faff but certainly better than walking 10km back to the car. Was thinking of making something like a firm piece of pool noodle to enable riding on a bust system without destroying your rim. But that will be waaaayyy too bulky. The new vittoria foam insert kinda doubles as a run flat... Keen to give it a go.

Have you watched the rocketeer? Some gum should seal it. Just pre inflate with a floor pump and do some quick thumb work.

I have sympathy for someone who double or triple punctures, but anyone who doesn't carry enough for at least one flat deserves to walk.

And don't try to make me feel skaam for your bad planning.......

I mean, if you're a trail runner, sure. Leave the tjoep at home.

However, if you're like most of the overweight, eina-knee or just-plain-lazy bastards on this forum, you know what to do...
